WRT FLTCRW1's post. There's nothing like going back to being the low man on the totem pole again...especially with having others around to let you know.

FLTCRW, you need to follow up by calling him a cherry.

Welcome aboard, Airborne.

ok, now that everyone seems to be taking shots. where should i start. larfive, in my opinion, blacks (and i am black) generally aren't interested in the SOF lifestyle. Most have come into the services and have had less than stellar times in their conventional units. Then when they consider SOF, they see that the OPTEMPO is even faster than what they are used to. Not to call anyone lazy, but generally the black population did not come into the military to work as hard as the community. Face it guys, people who want to be on the other side of the fence know it when they sign up.

next FLT, a little history about me, i have not always been in the 82 in my 9 years of service. i started out in the 1-0- worst, which for a flt ops guys is a hell of a good place to learn your job. applied to TF160 AND WAS ACCEPTED, but family comes first bro. i declined assignment to stay with my family, but got hosed into a korea assignment shortly afterward, which is where i had my first run in with displaced nightstalkers from 2-160 (i was the ops nco fOR A/2-52 from 96-97) was on assignment back to 160 when family intervened again (this time personal shit) so i got a hook up to usasoc flt det(where i was until civilians took over flt ops) then i went to 18 AVN BDE ( THAT SUCKED, advise against that for any avn guys) i was working on getting back into usasoc somehow when i was moved by shinseki's master plan to the 82d. The only way i could get away from there was reup for TF. i called some people i knew, who thought i should be there (ol' school ns guys) and they got me accepted.... again. my taste of the community was brief, but flt, once you leave you will do the same thing i did, keep trying to get back however you can. hence the NIGHT STALKERS DON'T QUIT.
I would have been a fool to think that becuase one person thought i wasn't good enough for something, not to try to do it anyway. i would have been in the 82d until i died.
Not saying that i am a BTDT, but to whoever called me a cherry. my brief resume would show that i am not.
oh yeah, i can't type worth a damn. lol

Airbornedude;

No offense but you just set us back about another 70 years. You may want to reread those old threads again about why blacks aren't so inclined to join special ops. Laziness is far from the list of reasons. High optempo doesn't scare away just the lazy but also those who lack the confidence to think they can keep up. Being a black man who has worked 16-18 hour days both in the military and on civilian jobs to keep food on the table, I and the rest of the hardworking brothers in America dont appreciate you looking down on us with such an inaccurate generalization.

This will be all I have to say on the matter since its been covered in depth in plenty of other places.

hey guys, i'll let my opinion about the black community die. i'm not into starting firefights. i really don't want anyone to think i am looking down on them. just speaking from what i have seen in my own time.

flt, i wouldn't wear my beret there yet, i got a PC man. also, i had orders in my hand, because i applied in person, i never sent in a packet. i was stationed at campbell before. and im my career field, if you homestead it will definitely slow you down. now going back and forth from conventional to SOF is a different story (some advice from the AVN proponency SGM). it may be different in your career field, flt. 93P's have to have that TOE/TDA balance to look well rounded to the selection boards. later

Hey its Airborne opinion, let him have it. It may be wrong, it may be right. The bottom line though is that nobody knows why the hell more blacks are not heading to SOCOM, and if anybody knew they would be solving a problem that the army is trying to figure out right now. And it is not just SOCOM, lets look at black officers, by % most opt for a non combat branch. Once again, something the army would like to figure out.

Here are my two cents that I will back with FACT. A majority of your black soldiers officer and enlisted are coming from a lower social economic class (not saying whites do not). So you have spent your time in the lower classes and you want to better yourself, you join the army get a scholarship and become an officer, whatever. SELF BETTERMENT for the civilian world IE: a means to an end. And guess what, SOCOM isn't seen as openening major doors in the civilian sector, so why would one branch INF spend their time active and get out having gotten no skills that can really set them up for the job w/ big bucks? Why not choose AG or supply, get out and get a job making big bucks with those skills that you learned in the military in that non combat branch? Just a thought and how can you fault anyone for making that choice? Feel free to blow up my thoughts or whatever its out in the open.

SOCOM can open doors for those who know foreign languages (Foreign Service, CIA, NSA, DIA, AID, USIA, FAS, FCS, international companies, etc, etc). Too many blacks are in noncombat positions like you said, but serving in the combat arms is the best way toward promotions. And too many blacks are palying and practicing sports than education. I'm a white guy and the black women at my work are bitching and complaining about the lack of black men with college degrees.

Mike,

If you would be so kind, pass my email addy to these women and I'll send them scanned copies of my degree, as well as my 3 brothers', my father's and the dozen or so other black men that I know holding one of those worthless pieces of paper. I'll bet what they really meant was that there was a lack of rich black men. Also let them know that the "CLUB" is the wrong place to look for a good man.

okay mr. airborne i wanna be a nightstalker yada yada yada, here is the deal. first of all i resent the fact that you as a black man would even bring color into the equation, let alone incinuate that we blacks dont tend to work as hard. I had to work hard in every school that ive gone through. and no i never saw it as being black or white. i just saw it is a burning desire to be the best and once your the best you can help others along the way irreguardless of color. another thing i want you to know is you better not even convey this ignorance to any nightstalker, because in the community there is no color among brothers. your going to learn this the hard way i see it all ready. NOTHING WAS EVER ACHIEVED WITHOUT HARD WORK remember that before you decide to trade your forth point of contact for your mouth.
