Well, i went on an awesome mountain buike ride on the weekend, but very expensive.

Got fined on the way for covering our license plate with the bikes AND lost my super tool on the way!!

Now, i need another one, any suggestions or just go with another super tool? Had the supertool around 5 years so id don't really know what's out there now...

I have a gerber, durable so far (had it about two years)

Has all the gagets common to all, but it has a nice locking system so that even with it open the blade or tool can't fold down and nail you.

Just a thought

I like the Topeak Alien. Has more tool geared toward bicycling than a regular "multi-tool". Contains allen wrenches, torx bit's, chain tool, box wrenches, tire levers, screwdrivers, spoke wrench all in sizes common to bicycles, knife blade and even a bottle opener.

I've found it more than handy on a number of occasion's and depending on how you ride a mtn bike you'll probably find yourself in situations where a number of the above would be useful and most aren't available on a leatherman or gerber.

Doesn't have pliers but unless you're jury rigging I can't think of one repair on a bicycle that you're SUPPOSED to make with pliers. Then again we are discussing emergency repairs and in that case it is whatever works. Either way, I'd rather have it than anything else.

For the advice...

Danny, although i lost it on a trail, i use it for everything else too. I know the alien, it's nice, i use a toolkit that fits behind the saddle in a nice pouch with space for a cellphone and a spare tube.

What do you ride? I have a Jamis Dakar Sport.

Specialized Stumpjumper. It's about 4 years old and I'm real happy wth it. I don't love everything about it all the time but I'm in no hurry to replace it either.

How's the riding in Isreal?

If this devolves into bike talk does it belong in this forum or should we start a new one in or bump to General Training Topics or something?

Al Mar used to make an excellent multi-use tool. Don't know if he still does, but it's worth checking out.

I lost my leatherman super-tool and then got a leatherman wave. I like it much better. Its easier on the hands to use.

I noticed the Wave is smaller than the super-tool, do you find that it loses some of it's durability? I was thinking either Super-Tool or Wave.

I like the wave for its size, that super tool was too damn big. I think the way it was constructed adds to its durability. I havent broke anything on it yet.

OK, I might get flamed for this but here goes.
I have also been carrying and using a Leatherman Wave for some time now. I think it's the best all around model in the Leatherman line but...
Pick yourself up a Leatherman Squirt. It's small but handy as all get out. I've used it for all kinds of things from opening care packages from home to loosening/tightening nuts and bolts that may need "adjustment". I keep mine on a small snap link at the end of some 550 cord along with a small flashlight. Both are with me all the time, in uniform or out.

Ok guys, funny story:

Got a really cheesy clock for my birthday, wife took it to change it , added some dough (sweetheart ) and brought me the Leatherman PST. Needless to say, i was glad she got it, but a bit dissapointed as it's not the one i wanted.

Went to change it to the SuperTool 200 and walked out with a Victorinox SwissTool. Looks good, haven't used it yet.

Thanks for the advice, and Reaper, the way my old Jalopy is goinf, i might just use it to rebuild the engine :-)

Which Leatherman models are people using now? My searches through the forum showed that most preferred the Wave model, but those posts are a few years old, and they now have different models. What is the current view? Thanks!

I'm partial to the SuperTool 200, especially the black one - all of the tools lock in place, unlike the Wave, on which only the knife blades lock.

Thanks - that one is sweet, but I went ahead with the Wave and am happy with it too. I was surprised that the blade(s) on it are nearly as effective as the kershaw folder I was carrying.

I vote: supertool (been using the same one for over a year now with minimal wear)
i keep breaking the bits off my gerbers.
