by Fred J. Pushies is out in the Motorbooks Power series. That series has been extremely variable in quality but this one is very good. It gives an excellent overview and includes lots of info on MEU's, Battalion Recon, Force Recon, etc. It really answers a lot of the questions that no-nothing types (like me!) have about their missions and what-have-you. It takes pains to point out the RECON focus of these guys as well as some candid comments about what an officer does in Froce Recon.

It's an overview but it answers darned near every question that a newbie might have about the unit. It makes an excellent companion to their Navy SEALs book.

I wish that someone would do a "Brave Men, Dark Waters" (a Kevin Dockery style multi-volume history would be even nicer!) about Force Recon but since that just doesn't seem likely this book will do pretty well.

Makes a good response to any dumb-a#$ questions about Force Recon, just tell the offender to buy this book!
