I've seen some posts here about this book, so I checked it out and read it in a day and a half. Awesome book. I can't believe how realistic Steven Pressfield made the characters and story seem, even down to how the story was narrated.

Someone wrote that a movie is being made of Gates of Fire? Even though it wouldn't have near the depth of the book, it'd be cool to see the Spartan hoplite maneuvers reenacted.

All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone even remotely interested in history or the military. I don't know what my vote would be for the greatest battle in history, but I would definitely put Thermopylae in the top ten.

Read it a couple of months back ...

One of the best books out there regarding that time frame .

I was the one that posted on it. It's true, they are making a movie out of it. SO far, the ones who MAY be cast are: George Clooney or Bruce Willis as King Leonidas, Colin Farrel, and other folks.

If you liked Gates of Fire, read "The Ten Thousand." It's about Xenophon's march, and it's also a true story.

The "Ten Thousand" is a great read. "Gods and Legions" by the same author is another good pickup.
