Hi,

Eventhough I am not a new member, I generally prefer to read than post. But today while I was surfing through the department of defence website, I found something that caught my attention.

The army is now recruiting possible special forces operators from the street. The training and conditions are all outlined in that website. I know there must be a lot of you interested in this new development. I know I am.

Cheers and Good Night!

You're kidding! They're really doing that?! :D

I thought that all this talk about 18Xs and the SOPC program was just an inside joke here in SOCNET. LOL

There is a minimum service requirement for the Special Forces......

Nope, not off the street yet. I doubt it will ever happen too.

It's interesting that the Aussies are also instituting this type of recruitment. It has been successful so far here in the US. Are they going through shortages of personnel also?

The service requirement is time you have to stay in to make the cost worth while to the army.

Apparently the first group is already through basic and IET. SF trainee they did this cause the government wanted 2 commando companies but one got turned into the east coast TAG so they need to recruit pretty much a whole company again. Hopefully all the wannabees try out so some rifleman slots become available for me and my mate, currently theres a six month wait.
