I personally witnessed a marine screen for BUD/S. He was a very big SSgt, and wasn't prepared very well because he failed poorly.I did not know that Marines can try out for BUD/S how often does this happen?

I'll check with my brother who is currently an Instructor, but I am pretty sure Marines don't attend BUD/S. Could he have been taking the test for EOD/Dive school? The tests are all given under the same name, or at least they used to be.

Actually, Marines sometimes do go to BUDS. It is called an inter-service transfer. They are no longer part of the Corps they are then part of the Navy. If this is no longer the case please let me know.

If you check the BUDS grad list, you will see that in the past there have been Marines that have gone through the entire course. Others have only gone through the dive portion of it. The current C.O. of 1st Force Recon is a graduate of the entire BUDS course.
Marine attendance seems to vary depending on the relationship at the time between the commanders on both the Navy and Marine side. I believe that it does not happen too much anymore. There have been more than a few Marines switch to the Navy and go to BUDS, or get out of the Corps and then join the Navy.
I do not no what the SSGT was doing, but if was not ready to perform then he rated being shitcanned.

If he couldn't hack a screening then he doesn't belong in the Corps either.
