i'll probably get hell for this but i don't have the time to search through all of the archives here. has anyone dealt with plantar fascitis before? do you have it now? how are you dealing with it? if you had it and now don't...how the hell did you get rid of it? i'm desperate and need some advice. most of the SF guys in my unit have never had it. the SF medic is alot of help but hasn't really had to deal with it. some advice would be great! thanks.

Two years ago I broke my medial malleous (Sp?) tore the deltoid tendon (I think that it the name of the tendon that attaches to the medial malleous) and strained my plantar fascia when I stepped in a hole while running. For me it was a week in a socf cast w/ crutches, 3 weeks in a walking boot 2 w/ crutches one w/o and 4 weeks of rehab (3 times a week).

And by then end of the two months the only thing that still bothered me was the plantar. It takes time and rest. It isn't something you can just work through or at least that is what my orthopedic surgeon told me.

I am gonna go out on a limb here and say if you are not motivated enough to look for it yourself you are probably going to catch some heat for being lazy while asking others to work for you. I would definately do a search.

That having been said, you will probably get a better response if you ask this in the Med Forum. Dont repost it there though. PM an admin and ask him to move it for you.

PF is more often than not caused by trying to run faster than the strength of your Plantar Fascia will allow for. The pain is the stretching of the Fascia. It can also be caused by running with shoes that are worn past their life. If neither of these are the case you may not be resting your legs enough between runs. If it is not caught in time bone spurs can develop. This is a bad thing-- VERY BAD.

Several question here.

a)How long have you been having this problem?
b)What is your run/ruck schedule and are you allowing time for rest?

Tx:

1.) Rest
2.) Ice it after runs/rucks also you can use a can of frozen juice or Margarita mix for ice therapy (place can on floor and roll foot or feet over it back and forth).
3.) Perform exercises to strengthen the Fascia. (pick up towles from floor with toes... Golf balls...marbles. This will help.

If it does not get better go see a Podiatrist. You want to take care of this before it becomes debilitating.

James D

I have better uses for that Margarita mix, and they are purely medicinal :D

Concur. I already passed the same advice.

Good med advice in the following thread, James. Well done.

Probably only if it continues to cause you problems and you dont get it taken care of.

a.) SEARCH

b.) See my post above

The things you are inquiring about have been covered before. Here and in the ARSOF Forum. As I stated above, and in PM to you, if you are not willing to work for yourself to solve your own problems noone here is going to be very willing to do it for you. You stated above, "I dont have time to search through all the archives here." If you dont have time what makes you think the rest of us have time to answer you.

I would admonish you to do some research on your own. If after that time you still have not found the answer by all means someone here will help you out. I am sure of this. They have helped me more than I can count.

Self-motivation!

DO NOT take this in the wrong way. i don't have the time to sit on the internet all day looking for answers through a bunch of threads. i have 5 projects with a total of 200 million dollars as a budget. i am not a full timer or a retired guy so as an engineer i am crunching design problems half of my day and managing my subordinates the rest. i have contractors that i deal with and civilians just plain suck to work with. there is in NO way a lack of motivation here. i work 12 to 14 hours a day then go home to train. afterwards, i do the military thing. motivation is a word people use when they have the time to say "i need motivation". me...motivation is a way of life. it's just the way life is. hopefully, very shortly...i can be a full timer like most other people around here. so, then i can concentrate all my attention and efforts towards being SF. thank you for all the help you have given me. i appreciate it. :)

I would think if the fascitis can keep you from obtaining your ultimate goal you would make the time in your busy day to find the answers...be it via an internet search, looking on socnet or going to see a doctor.

we all work long hours...

Infantry30-

I had that real bad in my right foot. I was running 8-10 miles a day and continued for several months after I got PF. I told myself to suck it up and never slowed down. Luckily, after the 3rd mile, my foot would go numb.

Anyway, it got bad enough that I finally went in for an xray, thinking that I has a fracture of some kind. The internal bleeding actually showed up in the xrays, which was surprising to me (I'm no medic).

Eventually, I had to wear a boot cast for about a month, whenever I was on my feet. It took about a year for it to heal enough for me to get back to where I was in my workouts.

Since then, I use shoe liners specifically for PF, as well as New Balance running shoes. There is an excellent site devoted strictly to PF. I can't recall the name of it off the top of my head, but if you run a Google search, you'll get it. They recommend New Balance shoes.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck...it can be a slow healing process.

OK. Don't take THIS the wrong way.

How would you like it if someone called to your office and said they wanted the reasoning to some portion of one of those 5 projects that are worth the 200 million dollars, and this person (who really doesn't figure into your equation, either as a superior or even a client) said to dump him the short answer as he "doesn't have the time" to look the info up himself.

IMO, you haven't really been reading the advice give to you, which BTW had little to do with your injury and MOSTLY told you to take a good look at your attitude.

Tell you what. Blow me off, fire a flame reply, and just keep on going the direction you are traveling. Nothing wrong with keeping your head in dark places. Heck, it certainly lessens your chances at getting skin cancer on the nose....

I30-
I sent you a very friendly PM about editing your post over in the SF forum. You chose to ignore it. You then disrespected the REAPER with your blow off and "anyone else ever build a bridge" self-promoting BS. The SF forum members can handle you without my nonBTDT-self intruding, but I did try to be nice and warn you about your lack of situational awareness via PM.

Now, you ask a question in the MedForum and have the audacity to post this condescending BS about how valuable your time is. Do you realize how arrogant that statement is? There are full time Medics, Phys. Assistants, Doctors, Nurses, EMT’s, and Firemen spending their personal time to answer questions on this forum. Your time is NOT more valuable than the men/women that frequent this SOCMED forum.

To me, you sound like a low-level civil engineer with an inferiority complex. I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire; much less give you advice, thanks to your attitude. You work long hours and on five projects, LOL. I am so impressed.

I appreciate the professionals that take the time to give their opinions on this board.....you should do likewise and get with the program.
You sure do like to make yourself sound like a very important, highly paid, high speed/low drag type professional. You are the first “ninjaneer” I have ever met, I feel so privileged, Sir.

infantry30 - I checked your profile and realize you probably don't understand what Sacamuelas is trying to say in a very nice way in the post above, so allow me to translate. You have pissed off The Reaper in the SF forum and think you are more important than the people in the Med Forum.

Shut up and go the fuck away. You're bothering the grownups.
