It is hard to believe that the media has actually found a story (capturing Saddam Hussein) that has caused a US death not to make headlines for once.
RIP, SSG Fahnestock-Voelz.

I just got back yesterday from her funeral, it was a very emotional and moving ceremony. I would estimate at least 100+ current and former (like myself) EOD techs were on hand, and not just from the Army mind you. The ceremony was to take place at 1030, however the turnout was so large, it started at 1430. The entire chapel was full. (This is how it should be)! She recieved the bronze star w/o "V" device, and the purple heart, the 21 gun salute and echoing "taps". A side note: it was good to see some of old guys there, and meet the new ones.
One day, I hope that the 60 series will be used as a guide and not the end all be all bible. Techs are smarter than that, give them the ability to decide the course of action. I can't count the number of people out there who'd agree from DTRA to TECHDIV.
Take care. And to my former buds in Kirkuk, what ever your doing (and I know) keep on keeping on, your still alive aren't you?

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. --
Staff Sgt. Kimberly Voelz -- a graduate of Trinity High School -- was fatally wounded when a bomb she was defusing went off.
The 27-year-old Voelz died shortly after the incident at a military hospital in Baghdad. Her husband, Staff Sgt. Max Voelz, was with her at the time.
Voelz was part of a team charged with protecting forces by dealing with explosive devices such as mines and unexploded ordnance.
A viewing for her will be held from 10:30 to 12:30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg.
That will be followed by a mass, then burial with full military honors at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.
Since Voelz's death, items from her have been arriving at her home? in the Susquehanna Valley
An e-mail she wrote the day before she died showed up in her parent's in-box on Tuesday.
Then, her green military uniform, complete with her posthumously awarded Purple Heart and Bronze Star with valor medals, showed up at the Carlisle home.
Friday, her Christmas present to her brother and sister-in-law came in the mail.
