Can those now in recon co/bn or recon-qualified converted to corpsmen?

Mike,
If you're mid-enlistment, I seriously doubt it. It was done once by a SGT in my Bn. If you're up for re-enlistment, cross-decking is probably simple, but its really a matter for your career jammer.

Mike, I forgot to add that once you make that move, I can guarantee that we'll get you.

sarc88, I'm not a Marine (should have been upfront). Just wondering since the local hospital is short of medical staff and it would be a good experience for current recon personnel to become medics. Sure there are many jobs former recon have but the health care field care is growing.

sarc88,

I looked at www.8427.com, (http://www.8427.com,) and, according to the screening criteria portion of the site, all applicants should be below 28 yoa, and E-5 or below. Is this old info? Has the age cutoff been extended to 30 yoa?

Thanks in advance,

mdb23

sarc88,

Just curious as to whether the age cutoff has been extended to 30 yoa. According to www.8427.com, (http://www.8427.com,) the cutoff is 28.

Thanks in advance,

MDB,
Thanks for doing your homework - the instruction does state 27. My mistake, however age waivers are almost universally granted if the candidate completes his screening. If you fall into this category, keep training and submit your package the second you're ready.

Got a question? Are 03's filling in for the 27 shortages? -Rob

Actually, I don't fall into that category. I am currently, as josepy would state, in the 1st Civ Div (Police Officer for a large metro PD).

Just thought I should clear that up before someone accuses me of "intentionally giving the wrong impression."

Thanks for the info,

Rob,
I'm not sure - I know that 03's are going out with plt's, but whether or not they're actually getting detailed as 27's...you'd have to ask Stone.

8404 - If you can pass the screening test, do it. ASAP. The downside for you is the zone C bonus, but otherwise you're in there.

Hey Brenden,
Good to hear from you. I visit this site once in a while and its good to see some of the bubbas who actually know what they are talking about laying down the good scoop. How are things down there at MCD? One of the FNGs from my platoon is coming your way in the next class. His name is Pazienza. Be sure to give him the TLC that only the fine instructors at MCD can provide...LOL. "Insane Wayne" Prebor told me that he has been receiving correspondence from LtCol Kent Bradford. I here that he is doing well. I hope things are good in your neck of the woods. Take care.

SARC88,
Just saw your location. How is Steve Cassidy? Is he being understanding of the EOD students' wants and needs?

SARC88-
Do you know of, or ever heard of, any exchange programs for Canadian Med A's or above with you guys? Reason I ask, I brought up you remark to our medic about how there's a shortage of people, and I was told that we've got a whole hockey sock full of combat medics doing jack because there isn't any advanced training availible. In fact our guy was just turned down for his tour in Bosnia because he didn't have the quals (how do get them if you can't get the training, etc??) I brought it up to my command but he just stared back, like a cow looking at a passing train.

Tony,
There is no active service exchange program to come and serve a tour with us. However, almost all of the service schools in the training pipeline (incl mine)teach foreign national students quite frequently. If your unit can work the liaison, I can get you the information you need to attend the courses we teach here.

I'm enlisting in the Navy as corpsman and wanted to know how do I try out for Force Recon? I will be a E-3 when I get out of basic and do I have to serve any time in a FMF befor I try out?

sarc88

cc1775,
If you have already signed, you can't get it guaranteed right now. While you're in HM "A" school, maintain a 90% avg or better so you will be eligible for a follow-on school.
After you start A school, go see the Career Counselor to get started. They will direct you to put in a request chit for the NEC HM8427. You will have to take the screening test and pass a dive physical for your application package to be approved. If you go to A school in SanDiego, contact the Company Aid Sta at 1st Force Recon Co (760) 725-2999 for the screening.
Good Luck

Sarc88, thanks for steering me to the website. Good info, nice looking site. I still have a couple of questions though, and I would really appreciate it if you could mail me any e-mail address you have (since there isn't one in your profile).
An open question for anyone else... does anyone know the fastest route to become an American citizen, or if a Canadian can get a joint citizenship even if both of his parents are Canadian? After I finish university, I want to join the Corps (or maybe the Navy, to become a corpsman), and fate & myself willing, join a SpecOps unit like FR. But it seems that you have to be an American citizen to get the clearances needed to be in SpecOps, which I can understand. Any help would be greatly appreciated from any of you gentlemen (or ladies) out there. Take care and again, thanks.

Justagrunt,
Not really sure what you're asking. This is a Navy enlisted job field. We've had a few other service vets who are now sailors come thru, but joining the Navy is the 1st step.

They just bumped up the age limit to 35 according to BUPERS. I'll be looking into the job myself when I get back to Lejeune in January.

mdb,
If you're thinkin about joining and the recruiter will take you, chances are extremely high that we will too. In fact, I just graduated an older E3 who came straight to us from your unit (1stCivDiv)

Hey Sarc88 what's up it's Rob from MCRD. I talked to Stone and he's letting me drop my 8425 NEC so I can apply for the pipeline. By the way do you guys at MCD have any recommendations on breath hold excercises, finning techniques...like a warning order. By the way can HMs attend a prescuba course?

I'm 31. Can that be waved. I talked to an HMC in Lejeune who said that once I pass indoc I can get put on the list to get my eyes fixed (PRK), and I hear that 8427 is only about 53% manned. I'm willing to give it a shot and am looking forward to the challange. What's the 411 on the age thing?
