Now that direct entry exists can you join reserve infantry then apply to join full time commando. Is there a time limit or age limit on this. Thanks for any help.

you can join CDO as a chocco (reserve) but you are better of trying to go through the direct entry scheme. if all you want to do is be a chocco then you could join up with 1st commando regiment as they are reservists.

It don't matter now since i'm going to Uni. I only just turned 18 so i would have had to wait around for a year for 4RAR which is fucking bullshit. I'll join reserve infantry at the the end of this year and work it out as I go.

Having to wait unitl you're 18 is not BS. It is a smart thing. Consider yourself lucky you have the opportunity to join straight for civvie street. Some people in-service get sent back at age 22-23. They need mature soldiers in the ranks.

CDO: Do you have a copy of the training program for CDO/SASR?

For the 15km pack march it says you carry pack, webbing, rifle 28kg in 2 hours 40 minutes.

Does anyone know if the pack alone weighs 28 kg or if it is pack and webbing combined that weighs 28 kg? That is a minor detail that could make a big difference. I know the webbing for the run must weigh 7 kg tack on another 28 kg and it gets pretty heavy.

What's the point in todays world? They aint ever going to see action.
If I was 18 again, and had a military bent, I'd find an American desperado wife on ICQ, get US residence sorted. Then try and join US Army, National guard, reserves, whatever gets you to the action.

You are talking about 1 CDO right? True the U.S. is seeing alot of action right now. Makes me wish I was still there.

Do you happen to know the answer to the pack march question?

I reckon you'd be looking at 40kg's all up.

Why don't you go back and see some real world shit?
Like, start of the day when you're emu bobbing the grounds for dury butts, and preaparing to set of on a bush trip to once again engage the 101 Kamarian raider company in blank firing armagedon. What goes through your mind?
Meanwhile your country men are shit fighting for real!

If the world was at peace and harmony ok, but it isn't. And I gotta say, I'm born and bred Aussie, but this country is even starting to shit me!
Every ones aknow all, know fuck all!
'Bring the troops home'. There's only a handful pulling security for diplomats in Baghdad, but every wobbling head has an opinion. We should shit or get off the pot.

You know man, I wish I could. I also know where you are coming from. My countrymen are over there and around the world in real world shit. I wish I could be a battle buddy to any of them.

I understand you frustration in having mock battles when guys are really doing it for real. Especially ones you may know personally. It pisses you off to no end. Thats life and you still need to train.

I can't say what ADF soldiers are doing over there for real. I can't because i am not there. Still I believe in putting the money where the mouth is, and bringing troops home will not solve the issues at stake.

Thanks for the weight answer BTW.

im not sure exactly what you want to know, but i will give you a couple of tips.

train with weight on your back.... start at about 10kg and work your way up to 30-40kg.
do as much soft sand running as you can.
run on hiking trails.
throw in a few PT sessions.
prepare to get some shit about coming in from civie street.

if you come in through the SFDRS then you will have your hand held through the whole training process so there isn't alot you have to do.

If you wanna see action you don't need an american wife. Thats way too much hassle. Just join the British army its no differnet than joining the ADF. We are part of the commonwealth you know.....

Plus who the fuck wants to go to Iraq, just let the dumb fucking iraqis kill each other saves us the hassle.

Thanks for the tips. Since you quoted me I'll assume you were refering to me as a civvie. Which I am not. I was in the U.S. Army, and was in 3 CER, currently at Holsworthy in a pretend wannabe SF unit. I'm sure you can guess which.

Have a good one.

They are all: 'pretend wannabe SF units'. Until they see some action that is!

What's Holsworthy like these days? The village still full of 'babes'?

Tammy was a memorable freak, 13 or 14 when she first started turning up around 7pl lines, sometimes she'd bring a friend.
Whoever they found in the lines they'd fuck.

Nah I've pretty much accepted all I'm gonna learn is from the doccos available on defencejobs so now I'm concentrating on the fitness side of things.

Dodgy up some bona fides and try for a slice of this action!

Army exodus: SAS troops quit

By Frank Walker

Up to 40 members of the elite SAS force have quit the army since the regiment fought in Iraq, with some going back there as highly paid private security guards.

Australia's highly regarded SAS troopers can triple their pay overnight to $1500 a day by switching to the swelling private security forces in Iraq, and recruiters are hovering to snap them up.

The exit has left the Defence Force scrambling to cover the gaps left by the troops, who gained valuable experience in Iraq, Afghanistan and East Timor.

With one SAS soldier costing about $2 million in training and irreplaceable experience, the loss to Australia's defence capability is enormous.

There are 500 in the SAS regiment, but only 100 saw combat in Iraq. They left as soon as their job was finished and were replaced by 300 commandos.

Four SAS soldiers who fought in Iraq 12 months ago are back in the country working as private operators for AKE, a British-based international security group.

One veteran commanded a squad involved in heavy fighting in Iraq 12 months ago and was regarded as a huge loss to the regiment.

Paul Jordan, a former SAS trooper who runs AKE in Australia, said they took only SAS men as they were the best.

"We have 13 former Australian SAS guys in Iraq," he said. "We aren't poaching from the SAS. We only talk to troopers who have already put in their discharge papers."

LOL! Sounds like a smart career move. Hey wait a minute isn't that considered being a mercenary?! Ha ha !

I noticed the other thread got the boot....Thanks Admin/s.

Interesting. Perhaps a smart move on their part, then again you have to wonder why they were SASR in the first place if they're going to leave just for money. Then again I'm not in a position to comment on that.

once you have been over to the dark side you don't want to be stuck in a desk job scratching your ass all day.
