I would have posted this in the history forum but they do not seem to get alot of traffic so...

I'm writing a research paper for a US Foreign Policy class and have chosen to analyze the US invasion of Panama. I'm aware of the military aspects of the invasion and my question is a broad one. What was it that made the US single out Panama (Noreiga in particular)? Many other Latin American nations were responsible for drug shipments into the US, why did Bush decide to go and get Manuel? Thanks.

I'm not totally sure on this so folks correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Noriega a big time drug lord that declared war on the US?? I think that was the reason..but once again I'm not totally sure about it..hope this helps.

Noriega was also a CIA asset and provided a lot of information on Cuba, and the Colombia drug cartels. It was his greed that caught up with him.
