View Full Version : Favored Self Defense System?

Ok, I'm throwing this question out to those who have the practical experience. I've taken a look in Muay Thai Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do, Krav Maga, Fillipino Martial Arts, Malaysian Martial Arts, Bujinkan/Ninjutsu, and probably a couple of other systems I can't remember off the top of my head. I have heard statements both for and against each one of those systems, except for Fillipino and Maylasian styles. What system, in the broadest number of situations possible, is the most effective? Which one do you personally favor? Why?

Dude, this has been debated ad nausea. You are a writer right? Do a little research and I'm sure you will find a few threads on this topic.

How much time do you have practicing each of those styles? Why did you change from one to the other? Which did YOU like more and why?

You wouldn't be posting this question without having "some" experience, right?

IMO, if you fall into the category of my last statement, you might want to read the "stickies" at the top of the forums, especially those applying to "wannabes". Even if you aren't a "wannabe", you might learn some valuable info which could ease your time here....

I'm not so much asking "which is best' because that question is largely unanswerable. Each has it's strengths and weaknesses, in theory. What I want is an experienced practitioner's view point, from experimentation and personal experience, as to what has the broadest effectiveness. Wing Chun might have some advantages over Krav Maga, but which is more likely to save you in a dark alley? That, and I want to know what style each person feels comfortable with and why.

I suppose it is, broadly speaking, the same as any other "which is best" question. I just nuances were different enough. I'll be sure to check the past threads.

Yes I am. And you can also find a very old picture of me if you searched around some more. Of course my articles on Gaming Outpost are only part of my work. Anyway, sorry for the stupid post. Consider this question dead.

Not mad at all :). I should have searched and my question was a bit too similar to the questions answered in the past. My fault. My stupidity. ;)
