On 19 November 04 the Professional Development Center here at Kadena will be renamed the McDaniel Center for Professional Development in honor of PJ MSgt William McDaniel. MSgt Bill McDaniels and SSgt Juan Ridout were assigned here at the 320th and were tragically killed in action 22 Feb 02, when the CH-47 they were on crashed into the ocean off Basilan Island, Philippines. It is a fitting tribute the PDC will be renamed in honor of this great American and our fallen comrade. I realize there are many people who were here during the accident that may want to attend the ceremony, so I have attached the invitation. This is a special opportunity to honor a fellow STS brother and a family who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

That's badass! Bill McDaniel was a stellar dude. I knew him at Nellis. Got a great story about him as a TSgt in Kuwait. We were at Al Jaber for a 4 month stint. Our Living Quarters were these long trailer style buildings right next to the chow hall. (Since Moved) We did all the cleaning of our own bathroom as we were on alert and didn't want the Haji's fucking around in out trailer. Well, as we were right next to the chow hall, and the nearest cadillac shitter was a couple of hundred yards away, we would aways get some jackass coming in from the dinner and trying to shit up our latrine. Well, one day, this young SP (looked at least 12) strolls right past Bill into our trailer, while we were sitting in the day room watcing a movie with myself and an FE present as well. Bill lets this kid get into the stall and start pissing, then kicks open the door, grabs this dude by the scruff of the neck, and frog marches this kid down the hall as he's trying to get his pants done up, while not pissing anymore. Bill then literally tosses this SP out the door (Bill was a large guy) and tells him to stay the fuck out of our latrine. Well, this sniveling, piss covered Amn runs off to his supervisor and starts to tattle. At this point, Bill has gone back to his room as we are rolling on the floor laughing and can't continue watching the movie. I'm only a SrA at this point, mind you. Then, this SSgt SP comes marching into the day room, armed with all his war gear, and proceeds to chew my ass for throwing his boy out of the latrine. It seems he thought that any SP was allowed to use any Latrine on the base as their own, because of their "high state of rediness" needed by the SP's. Every time I try to explain, he jumps back down my throat. But, as this shouting match goes on, Bill hears the ruckus and comes back down the hall, stopping right behind this guy...inches away. Well, this SP then realizes that there's this hulking body behind him and abruptly turns to confront Bill. Bill grabs this guy by the LBV and tells him that he's a TSgt and he was the one that threw young Amn out of the trailer. If SSgt has a problem with it, he would be happy to discuss the issue at lenght outside. SP shuts the fuck up, turns around, and practically runs out of the trailer to the chorus of all the people laughing hysterically! Needless to say, that's how I'll always remember Bill, young SP in hand, flinging him down the hall as he tries to pull up his pants. Good dude. Blue Skies...Jolly Green.

Now that was a great story, and thank you Ryan for sharing it.

I find it ironic, that now things have changed, and for the better. In my time at PACAF HQ, one of the lesser arguments we had, and lost, was that the PJ's on Kadena were forced to wear the blue cunt cap, and could not wear their berets or blouse their boots while in attendance as a tenant unit to PME courses on base. They liked to shove this up our ass at the time. NOw, the place is named after one. Hahaha....we got the last laugh.

Shit im stationed on Kadena and I didn't even hear this good news. Ryan, funny story, I think I remember you from Nellis. Your name rings a bell, If I remember right, you're that gunner that always wore a checkerboard scarf when flying.

If you mean a white/black shemagh in Afghanistan, yep. Stateside, you couldn't catch me dead in the dreaded yellow/black checkerboard choker that they issue at Nellis.
