has anybody been looking at what's been going on over in sl for the past month? seems the brits have 1)sent in a recon team, possibly a 14 int. company type, which was captured and 2)a suprise raid on the rebel group that captured British troops. does anyone know what is going on and if the regiment was involved?

The soldiers who were captured were from the Royal Irish Regiment on training duties in Sierra Leone. The British Ministry of Defence does not comment on 22SAS or SBS, other than admitting they exist. Since they will not say which unit Bombardier Tinnion (KIA in the raid) was serving with, it seems he was SAS. Articles in the Times and Telegraph have said D Sqn 22SAS and SBS were involved, how reliable their sources are I have no idea.

14INT deals mainly in plain clothes surveillance of terrorists in N.I. I don't think it would be employed on a green military op.

I seem to remember Andy McNab saying something in "Immediate Action" to the effect of what Weekend Warrior is saying. McNab said that 14th Int was lobbying that they could do all intel work for the 22nd and the Regiments feeling was that they were an urban intel outfit and that they'd been there so long that other forms of intel gathering might be beyond their scope.

It's important to rember that a unit either evolves to meet new demands or it dies.
I think it quite possible that 14 was involved to some extent, but not in a green role.
Adapt and survive. 14 did do a lot of rural work in NI as well.
