I have a mild case of asthma but it might go in a few years and i was wondering if the sas or any other special forces would take candidates with a history or presently with asthma?
Thanks, stuart.

Not if you tell them they won't.

No. Asthma will get you turned away. However people have been known to slip by with it. Don't get discouraged. See if it gets better. You can also get waivers. If you had childhood asthma and it has pretty much gone away then you may have a good shot. If you are looking at joining the British Army check with them. However also look into the Irish Army Ranger Wing. They are very well trained and get deployed too, so you will see some action. Check into both, do some research and then go talk with recruiters. If they tell you no, wait and go see another. Some just don't want to "waist their time". Good luck

I actually knew a guy in the Brigade Recce troop who only had one lung. He didnt know until he needed surgery and they noticed something missing.

He'd passed all his courses really well, he was just born like that.

So yes you can get by with things, but don't count on it.

I have friends I train with who have been turned down due to Asthma on their medical records. Check out the med regs and guidance available from your local careers office. It is a bar to entry.

My advice never mention it at all in any interview or form.

A colleague managed to get their family doctor to state that a child hood diagnosis of asthma was wrong. He now has a commission in the RAF

Good Luck and 100% it

Don't quote me on this-I haven't ever had asthma-but I think that if you go for four years without using an inhaler then you can join the green Army, and I assume that once in on this premise, provided that you meet the other criteria, then all courses should be open to you.
I also knew a bloke who joined the Royal Marines Reserve who had mild asthma, but he kept it quiet and passed his medical. But he was still a knob, and he didn't pass.
