All right, here is my question?
But first why I'm asking? I am currently project lead for a new PC First Person Shooter Game (FPS). This game will have the obvious focus of Special Forces, specifically world wide. We have currently selected....
In no particular order...
UK : SAS
USA : NAVY SEALS
GERMANY : KSK (apparently GSG9 is non international).
????
That's right, I need a fourth one, but who, what country has the current notoriety to be recognized amongst those mentioned above, I HAVE NO CLUE, Please help me, and let me know of resources of information for that 4th country's Spec Forces.
BTW, I did 4 years in the USAF as Security Police, Honorable discharge in 98, rank E-4, Senior Airman.
And we dont have a website for the game yet, as we are in research phase. Thanks for any help.

The Israeli units like Sayeret Matkal have lots of experience in ops, the French GIGN springs to mind, theres many to choose from.
And about the FPS games i have to mention the fact that our firm did cooperation with Innerloop in making the Project IGI, we held a weapons demo here in Finland and they had the chance to test weapons from pistols to machineguns.

I was considering the Sayeret Mat'Kal actually. I just wanted to make sure that they are well known. The target for this game is mainly the US, however the Germans, Brits, and French are big into these types of games as well.
The one bad thing is forcing the French to choose someone other than themselves, and I need a Middle Eastern representation. Thanks for the help.

It would also depend on whether or not you are considering "Tier One" units. Sayeret Mat'kal is not your everyday SOF unit. SM compares to our Army's Delta and to the Navy's DEVGRU.

You could always go with the Russian Spetsnaz
I think they are more known then any Israeli sf unit and im pretty sure they are also more known then GIGN.

Here is what I decided to go with, except I want to choose some one else if the Sayeret Mat'Kal is not tier one.......Please let me know of another Tier 1 that I dont have on the list.
West
UK - SAS
USA - Navy Seals
Germany - KSK
French - GIGN
East
Israel - Sayeret Mat'Kal
Lebanon - Marine Commando Regiment
Iraq - Republican Guard (Goes with 6 year future timeline of the game, I know their weak.)
Russian - Spetznatz

A "Tier One" unit is a dedicated CT/HR unit such as Delta, DEVGRU, SM, 22 SAS (CRW), Canada's JTF, Russia's Alfa, CIA's SAS, etc. The Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces, British Paras, etc., as good as they are, are not Tier One units. Also, the Iraqi Republican Guard is in no way a SOF unit. In fact, Iraq has virtually no effective CT capability and even their Special Forces can barely conduct long range ops. Plus, the Lebanese aren't very good either. You might also consider adding a Latin American team if you plan to market your game down there. They have some very capable units, despite the lack of publicity. One of the most spectacular hostage rescue ops of the last ten years (at least) was the Japanese Ambassador's residence operation - reviewed in detail on this website.
My point is that, if it matters, you are sort of mixing apples and oranges in a way. Perhaps that's no big deal for a game, but just thought I'd clear that up.

As you are in the research phase, you really should spend some time reviewing the foreign SOF section of this website, as well as the one at www.specwarnet.com. (http://www.specwarnet.com.) Respectfully, it doesn't appear that you've checked out the available information.

No I havent looked at specwar.net, but I have scoured many other sites for days. What I am looking for here is Special Forces that are well known and notorious, such as the Seals and SAS.
The market for this game is mostly Europe and America, there is virtually no market for PC games in Latin America.
I wasnt all that sure what a "tier one" was, and now that I know, I do not want tier one. The game is set in 2006, Isreal and Palenstinians have made peace. So, really what I am looking for is notorious "Eastern Special Forces".
The Iraqi Republican guard looks like a bad choice, but it fits perfectly into the story line. So with all that said, do you have any suggestions on middle eastern spec forces????

Well, if you are looking for bad guys like the Iraqis, I'd suggest the "Special Republican Guard": http://www.fas.org/irp/world/iraq/srg/index.html

Thanks for help on that one. The tough thing is finding info on these small groups, and pictures as well. I know their are firms out there you can pay money to do the research for you, but the Internet is so powerfull for during the early stages like this. Thanks for your help and contributions to these threads.

Your willing to assume that in 6 years Israel and Palestine have made peace, and that the Republican Guard and the Lebanese have become comparable to SAS and SEALs?
This an SOF or a fantasy game?
For Eastern militaries, check out China, North Korea, Cuba, maybe some African nations...

I didnt say "First Rate", I just need an East vs. West Scenario. And as far as six years go, anything more than that the game would have to include weapons that arent even in use today, but why the hell am I telling you all this anyway, have a good day.

Well, if you're going East vs. West, I really doubt that Sayeret Matkal would go "against" the US, and vice versa. Look at politics today to give you an idea: Even when all of the UN condemned current Israeli action against Palestine, the US refused to condemn them. That's a pretty darned strong statement. Add to that the fact that the US supplies a large percentage of Israeli arms, and the number of Israeli ex-patriates in the US today, and I would say that there is an alliance about as rock solid as they come.

For France you could try Le Groupe de Combat en Milieu Clos (GCMC), I think they are the maritime CT unit, like US SEAL DevGroup.
