Conversion of a "normal" C-130 into a MC-130E Talon I, scale is 1/72, with working lights....

Nice work Joe!
I do miss the Fulton Recovery whiskers on the current birds at Duke Field.
Excellent job!!

Before someone starts complaining: Yes, I know, the props are missing, but I still have to apply decals and a final coat of clear drab, then the Talon is complete.

Nah, I just thought you were going for the "they're spinning, so you can't really see them" look ;)

Looks awesome though, especially with the lights (which I'm sure were a lot of work). First time I scrolled past kinda fast and thought it was a real bird on the flight line. LOL

Yes, my brother an I were sitting a whole night making those circuits and trying NOT to burn a hole in the model... The work was worth it, we were really happy when we switched off the room lights and saw the result that you now see.

Matt, how you´re doin?

Joe,

Not sure if you know this but but the bigger the picture you attach the more bandwidth it takes up, the more bandwidth that is used, the slower this board runs. I resized the picture you posted to an acceptable limit. A good indicator of what is a good size is if it fits on the page without having to move the page to the right to see the rest of the picture, if you have to move it to the right more than 1/4 of an inch, then it's too big.

This applies to pictures that are attached ONLY. If you LINK a picture from another website, it doesn't bother our bandwidth, but it does eat up theirs.

If you don't have a program that will resize your pictures, here are a few free ones that you can download and use:

http://www.handyarchive.com/free/image-resizing

Also, if you want to link to an article or a picture from another site copy the address from the address bar (from the site you want to link to) then on your "post" or "reply" page click on the Http button (see picture below).
A new window will pop up, the first window is what you want to call the link, i.e...you could just type in "Link", or "C-130".
After you hit enter, another window will pop up and this is where you "paste" the link from the site to the picture or article you want to link to.

Sorry about that Ace, I thought 45 Kb would be OK. Nevertheless I have my own webspace and transferred the pic to my space...

Joe,

It's no big deal when one or 2 people do it, but when 200 do it, the board slows considerably, since you've linked the photo from another site, it doesn't affect our site. No worries on my end.

Wow, I notice you even got the seats painted red (great work!). Are those pilot's helmets white?

Joe Lippke

Yes, the pilots helmets are white. Is that correct?

I'm assuming that they'd be wearing HGU-55/P's(there's only two flying helmets in the AF, and one is helo specific), so the color scheme should be a combination of light grey and dark grey.

Edited to add pic:

By the picture of the aircraft it was pre-55P helment days.
You are correct by todays standards but by the standards when they were flying with the Fulton Recovery System they probably had HGU-39P's or something similar.
White was acceptable but most MAC/TAC flyers had their helments taped with camo tape.
Now that I think harder, the 39P was helicopter specific so the stiff wing guys had a derivitive (sp) of the fighter guys set-up.

Gotcha - does this one look right: HGU-39/P (http://www.martaviation.co.uk/HGU%2039.htm)

So my pilots are wearing the wrong colours... Well, if I knew that before glueing the parts together... ;)
