I just got this DVD in the mail today and have just watched it. Given the complete lack of stick grappling video's out there, and the general sparsity of stick grappling instruction I don't have much of a yardstick to compare the DVD to, but overall was very happy with the DVD.

The contents of the video is as follows:

Instruction - 40 min

Cross body lock, rear choke, head lever, head duck counter arm out counter, arm out counter, stick grab counter, achilles lock, figure four leg turn, heel hook, head lock, reverse knee pick, over under, front head lock, head and arm throw, neck crush, overhook sliding thrust.

Training - 7 min

Stick training on a dummy, stick grip pushups, thumb pushups, bone crusher pushups, body toughening.

Scenario's - 25 min

Cq striking range, projectile enter, stick equaliser, submission, stick grappling, largo range, corto range.

The instruction deals with fighting in the clinch, with subsequent DVD's to deal with grond fighting. The Scenarios consist of full contact stick fights without the use of protection other than mouth guards; very entertaining!:D

Overall I'd give the series two thumbs up. Definitely worth getting for the FMA fans out there.

Sayoc is a good group. Till recently they've been predominantly blade oriented. I've sponsored a couple Sayoc seminars here in Atlanta, and would back you up on their quality.

You can get their blade stuff, and apply it to stick techniques as with any FMA.

Where did you get the vid from?

I ordered it from their website not long after it came out. I'll probably put an order in for their knife video's, a well as the rest of their stick fighting vid's when they come out.

Thanks for the review. While I have been a fairly devout disciple of FMA's,I have never had the pleasure of seeing Sayoc Kali in action except for the movie, but I have heard good things about it.

Rock, didn't know you were an FMA guy. That being the case, definitely check out their stuff. All of the basic movements with a blade are different than what we could call "traditional" kali/escrima. I too have been an FMA practicioner for a while, and would switch completely to Sayoc if there was a certified Sayoc guy in Atlanta. I've been exposed because I sponsore some seminars. Great stuff. Looking forward to knowing more about this vid that Xs2 is talking about.

I have trained with,Inosanto,Bustillo,Vunak,Hocheim and a host of many more.I have trained with Ramon of the Canete family and Iam the only Caucasian that he has ever taken on as a student. They call me in the Filipino community here Datu Puti(White Chief),I kinda like that name! LOL
I would definaletly like to know more about Sayoc!

The Sayoc's are good to go. They used to hold their annual Sama-sama down in Kissimmee (Orlando) and include a Filipino BBQ after training. It's definitely a different flavor than "traditonal" FMA, using the templates vice numbered angles of attack.

Chris Sayoc is the blade wizard of the family, Mike Sayoc tended to focus on the stick and whip. It seems that since Chris has started to run with it all, he's bringing the full "fighting system" back into the curriculum.

The only issues I would have with what they teach is the emphasis on multiple blades. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but personally, I seldom carry more than 2-3 on my person at any given time. This isn't a dig against them, it's still very good to train accessing from different positions. I just don't personally follow that philosophy.

Funny that you said that... At both the seminars that I did, there were multiple guys walking around with over 10 blades on their person. One guy, the instructor, Jeff Chung had 16 blades strapped to him. I thought it a bit much, but the information passed on what OUTSTANDING none the less.

Rock, that is pretty damn impressive I must say! Well, that means if you in Atl, your just gonna have to do some teaching!

Does anyone know if Sayoc did a karumbit DVD? I had some karumbits made several years ago (before they came in vogue mind you...) but only did some basic training with them. Anyone have a good resource if not Sayoc?

It seems as though everyone has gotten on the Karambit bandwagon over the past couple of years. I've seen a bit of the Sayoc kerambit work, but it's been so long ago that I can't remember much about it. The Mande Muda video is probably good, but I haven't seen any of their material since Pak Herman died so I won't vouch for it.

Steve Tarani is "the man" when it comes to keramit work. Not that there is anything wrong with Tarani, it's just that he's had the same training as most of us, but found his niche in the gun world. He astounded many firearms trainers with how "deadly" the karambit is & now teaches it to everyone in a nice 2-3 day package. Nothing against him personally, but I've seen some of his 300 lb students who think they are the shit; I'm less than impressed. I would expect his videos to be very basic, considering the target audience.

We have Sayoc at our school. It's taught by one of the associate instructors who was certified by a guy whose name I can't remember for the life of me.

It's only taught on Saturdays at a relatively low attendance class unfortunately.

Well I just ordered Sama Sama seminar 2004 and stick grappling from them and a 6ft Sayoc whip(just for fun)! I have been doing and showing the Marines here at my camp some basic knife work(only 5 angles of attack) and they are really into it. I have shown them some Hubud(SP?) drills and its getting fun. Next will be sticks. Iam also now the deadly force instructors for our SGS guards(iraqi)and we hired 10 yesterday and 40 more within 2 weeks,so Iam getting plenty of practice.

IMUA Illcheck out your website and I hear your brother is pretty damn good too! I met some of your good buds at 3C last week and we did some horse trading! LOL

NO. AT said he was bored and had sometime to kill. I still feel bad for leaving him hanging like we did. He had a lot to deal with after we took off.

Is SOG-SMG still looking? I think he is about ready to head back over.

Stay safe.
