I'm happy to place this announcement up here for those have an interest in MMA/NHB.

My coach, and my soon to be new baby's Godfather, Ricardo Murgel, has been made a commissioner for Pancrase! For those that don't know MMA, that is a fairly huge deal.

In the pic below you'll see a pic of Ricardo and our best fighter, Nate Marqhardt, who is the only 6x King of Pancrase winner being awarded his black belt from Ricardo. For the BJJ uninitiated, getting a blue belt in BJJ is something of an accomplishment. On average, the basic black belt is earned after at least 4 years, but more realistically 6-8 years on consistant training.

I've been fortunate enough to build what we have here in the states with Ricardo from the start, so I'm proud of my coach and my team for this level of recognition. He and I started in 98 in Atlanta, and have worked hard ever since, and through a lot of hard times. Ricardo has a technical level that is simply amazing, well beyond who many people believe to be the be all end all MMA/BJJ crowd. For the initiated, you can guess who I'm referring to.

Yes we are! Thanks!
Ricardo is coming all the way from Brazil when the baby is born, or as he likes to refer, "our little champion". Don't know if its a boy or a girl, the wife and I wanted a surpise. No matter what, it'll be an ass whoopin kid.

LOL,

Super Bowl Sunday….sounds like an auspicious beginning to me.

That reminds me of an amusing story.

***mild hijack warning***

Case #452-3b of not to bright husband (names have been obscured to protect the guilty): We’re stretching out at 06oh-my-god-its-too-early-for-this-shit, and the instructor says to Mr. Xxxxxx: “Hey, you’re wife’s going in to be induced soon isn’t she?” To which, Mr. Xxxxxx replies: “Yea, at 0830 this morning…I figure I’ve got enough time to shower before we go to the hospital, if I hurry.”

:D

Choke, can you recommend a good Pancrase website for me to do my homework on…so I know what you guys are going to be talking about?

A Yamasaki guy!
I will definitely do that. I met Professor Y at the NAGA in Raleigh a few years back and he was a very nice guy. I remember being very impressed with him, and the guys he brought with him. Very professional. This was at the NAGA when one of my guys(Mark Robinson) fought Jeff Monson. Were you at that one?

Gryfen, since you're curious, Pancrase is one of the original Olympic sports. And it happens to be the original MMA/NHB.

I don't mean to nitpick, but Pancrase is not the original MMA/NHB. The original MMA/NHB is Pankration in ancient Greece. Pancrase is the name of the organization, just like "UFC" or "Pride". :D

For what it's worth, and I'm sure you know this as well, modern day MMA/NHB originated in Brazil in the 1950s.

Yes that is nitpicking and you do intend to do it. I gave Gryfen a link because she was curious.

I'm aware of the name. And Pancrase was started as an organization rooted in the original greek sport.

I am also aware of the origins of NHB in Brazil. My coach is one of the originals who was there.

Is this going to turn into a dick measuring contest?

I know that you're aware of all of that. I nitpicked for the benefit of others, not you.
