I was wondering if SBU units mounted M134's on their riverine boats. All the pictures I have seen just had Mk19,M2,and M60s as their mounted guns. I was just wondering because those guns can sure lay down a hail of fire. I know they are mounted on Special Ops helos just wondering if they were fielded on the boats. Thanks for answering my question.

Yes we do use miniguns. One detachment from SBU-22 just completed a live fire exercise with a platoon from Team 4. The GAU-17 7.62mm minigun was used very much as the primary forward weapon on the CAC boat. We have been playing with them for about 6 months and they seem to be working very well. There are a few bugs that we are working out.
Nothing better than to roll in on a target and have 1500 rounds tearing the shit out of the target. Very good weapon for our mission.

Thanks sambone! Everyday more and more I'm getting interested in getting into boats when I am done with college. What I know about boats is very limited and the "toys" of particular units are very interesting to me, particularly the ones that spit out a lead so quickly.

Also one other question, do all boat guys get training in the surf where they purposely roll the boat over? (I saw this on a show about the USCG, I'm assuming SBU gets this training too)
Regards,
JL

shurefire,
Getting into the "Boat Units" isn't easy. There is a demanding screening test and the a 9 week school. They currently have a 47% drop out rate. As for the surf passage that may roll your boat. Leave that shit to the Coast Guard. We drive high speed patrol boats. My unit is the ONLY Riverine unit in the world. We training and work in the riverine environment. Other units operate off the coasts and in the ocean.
Good luck and have a good x-mas
