Is there any truth to the rumor that SWCC training is going to be merging with BUDS? I am planning on putting in a SWCC package but I am currently under orders and won't be able to put in my package until 2 years after I hit my new command. Is the program going to be significantly different in two years?

No, as far as i knmow SWCC will not be merging with BUD/S. But SWCC will be 23 weeks long altogether that will include SWCC basic and SWCC advanced. SWCC basic is what SWCC is now and SWCC advanced is SWCCI that the NSWC took over just like how the NSWC took over STT this realeases the individual commands from giving a SWCCI. but if your not going for 2 years you can be pretty sure that SWCC will be the same as far as physical requriments. You will however get a little more structured training after graduating SWCC basic.

Squall 32, Thank you very much for your time and reply. Do you know if there are any SWCC personnel in Pearl Harbor that I could screen with? I guess I can find that out when I get there.

As far as i know there are no Boat Guys PCS at Pearl but there are plenty of SPECWAR people there so you can screen(i.e. SDV1,EOD) those units can screen you. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

As far as merging with BUDs training, I agree with squall. As far as it being the same in two years... I don't think so. SWCC is evolving and growing very quickly right now, and I donīt see that changing. So I expect the schoolhouse to change with it. I definately see the structure of the training improving and changing to put out better boatguys.

I think the confusion comes from the decision to put Basic SWCC training under the Naval Special Warfare Center (also referred to as "BUD/S", although maybe we should break that habit). There are detailers notes on guys' electronic records now that say "BUD/S", but only show a three month school, normally followed by SERE school. After SWCCI, these guys are awarded 5351, so we (Enlisted Community Managers, and the detailers) know what's going on, but someone else might be confused. The simple answer is yes, SWCC is taught at the Naval Special Warfare Center (which also owns BUD/S), and no, the course is not the same as BUD/S. SWCC is taught by a select cadre of SWCC-qualified guys, but it has now been fully integrated as a formal Naval Special Warfare Course.
