Quick question for anyone in the know....
Are the SBU's deployed to the Pakistani coast doing any VBSS,maybe with the teams or on their own?
Just kind of wondering if they have any role in the grand scheme.

Why ask stupid OPSEC violated questions like that. Pull your head out and breath first.

First of all there high speed if you look at the question it has nothing to do with OPSEC.
I was wondering if the SBU's are doing anything related to the current situation. I didn't ask for specifics bright boy. Read the last line of my question...and ahh..get a grip on yourself.

GRENDEL,
HEY JACKASS. Do you not understand what OPSEC is. Your Question's are asking all the wrong things. As a "BOAT GUY" I would never answer a question like that. This is not a secure forum and if you have to ask that question, then you are WRONG.
Remember NEVER get off the BOAT!

Sambone,
It was just a matter of time before you piped up. I know how VBSS is near and dear to your heart.

Once again, I am aware what opsec is...I would never ask for some kind of info like that over an"open" site.
I was just wondering if the SBU's are getting the chance to work during the current situation. I didn't want specific info. I have some friends from 20' and havn't gotten a chance to speak to them. I didn't mean to get everyone worked up.
I just wanted to get some action on this board. The SBU's are an important yet highly overlooked part of NSW.
OK....

I hope to GOD you are a fuckin wannabe but your question is unexcusible. If not and you are ACTIVE Navy you are the biggest idiot dipshit on this board. Shut your cock holster and crawl back to where ever you came from.

Hey DFC5343!
Maybe you should tone it down alittle.

I am not a "Wannabe" .....asking if the SBU's are getting a chance to work during the current situation is not an insane question on this board. A simple "yeah we are" or "shit no"
would be cool. Like I said before the SBU's are one of the best parts of NSW as far as many people are concerned.
DFC if you can't write anything above a sixth grade level...then don't bother. This is not a spot for a "pissing contest".
I appreciate your concerns, and everyone reading this should not take OPSEC lightly...ever. I just think your getting a little worked up.
Now can we have some real discussion about what this board is for.
A few years ago I had the opportunity to work with some Coast Guard guys from a unit called TACLET North....actually still have one of their coastie hats. Apparently they did some cross training with guys from SBU-12 and the Marines Small Craft Co. They do alot of interdiction type work so they're pretty up to date on technique.
Any SBU guys done anything with them lately?

 Anyway Grendal, this is how it is. It seems that some people think that boat guys have something to prove. Most of the guys I have had the pleasure to work with would rather have the incognito persona that they have instead of the limelight bullshit that seems to be the norm in the "Hollywood" world of today. So with that, no one needs to know, here or in the press, anything about what specops personel are doing anywhere in the world. If your there then you know, if not guess but don't post questions that could compromise what needs to remain silent anyway. I'm not preaching but the shit is getting outta hand....oops sorry there's those "6th grade" words again.

While I'll won't be so blunt as DFC5343, Let me answer this to educate others who just can't take NO for an answer. I quote SECDEF as to how "we" are now instructed to answer questions such as yours post 911. "I cannot discuss current operations of this nature as it may disclose information vital to our National security and compromise the safety of our men and women overseas." And guess what, he means it! He personally chews out those who make such errors, however slight.
However, feel free to send your classified questions to me over the SIPRNET and if you can convince me you have a need to know, I might answer you.

Does anyone know if there are any SEALS at Coronado?
Oohhh....don't wanna violate opsec!
Geez, some of you guys sure know how to overreact.
So what if someone on a damn message board asks the question that was asked. Last time I looked there was a whole damn fleet over there.
There was no security breach threatened with his question.
Don't be so anal...

Good job Hero. Mouthing off to two Naval O's. Both of whom are SEALs.
So why don't you tell us ALLLLLLLLLLLLL about your adventures on a Team? Remember, don't forget to give out details about operational matters and personnel's names, ages, locations, and lock codes. Those pesky little things could never compromise security or put the lives of good men at risk.
Numbnuts.

Maurauder/Student
Look at the original question, Bozo. He didn't ask for personnel's names, ages, specific locations or whatnot. He asked a general question that he could probably get anywhere. He was just trying to start a thread of interest to us.
You jumping on the "opsec" bandwagon to try and impress the BTDT's is pathetic. The overall hypocrisy of this very issue is tiresome.
On SOCNET(a great site regardless) it's not the question that is asked that gets slammed but more often who asks it.
I just read a post from one of the board's biggest names. Whom you all are very familiar with. He posts about a training excercise and shows locations and tactics. Anyone else posts that and he gets reamed. Probably even gets a warning from Mr. Rambo.
It's en vogue to dogpile and make the newbies feel inferior by all these supposed opsec violations. You can get most of this "news" anywhere.
Any real opsec should be monitored for sure, but when some of you pick and choose who you reprimand based on their board popularity rather than the actual threat it makes you look childish and cliqueish.
I frequent a couple of message board's and this one, by far, has too many people who take themselves too seriously.
I'm a former Marine and in no ways a hero.

Since I am the only Admin guy that responded to this thread, I would hazard a guess that your post was directed at me, or the Admin in general. Let me clear up a few points for you:
1) The original question that was asked made an "assumtion" about a REAL WORLD op,........ that appeared to be asking for confirmation.
2) We call that OPSEC.
3) If you feel that anyone on this board regardless of who they are has violated OPSEC, feel free to contact me, I will adjust fire accordingly.
4) Feel free to give me/Admin a little background about yourself so we don't think your just another bone head who types before thinking.
5) If you feel that some folks are getting a little out of hand with the OPSEC thing, well, maybe that's because we do this "Spec Ops" thing for a living not just talk about it.

Ace, Doc42,
Thanks for the professional reply. That's why you're Admin.
No, this wasn't directed at Admin. It was directed at individuals who choose to call people, "Idiot Dipshit" and "Jackass" to try and impress others with their top-secret, need- to-know attitude.
When the accusations and name-calling don't match the OPSEC threat these responders look ridiculous.

Tripletap (and Grendal),
The two of you talk as though something as innocent as the question posed is no big deal and that it isn't an OPSEC violation. At another time, that may even have a shred of truth, but RIGHT NOW ISN'T THAT TIME!!!!!
The mere hint (or innocently asked question) that NSW forces may be deployed somewhere specific (i.e. the Arabian Sea) can have dramatic affects on how our enemies (or even our friends) act and conduct operations. So, while they are showing us what they want us to see, they are covertly doing something else (i.e. conducting their own counter-surveillance op to learn how we operate so they can hit us). This then leads to bad juju for our guys. And if you think things like this doesn't go on, you are naive.
Additionally, our enemies aren't stupid. They talk with each other. They share information with each other. They may not like each other very much, but they hate us more. So, what starts as an innocent question as to whether certain forces are operating in a specific AOR or not, can quite easily lead to those forces (and their SOPs, TTPs, etc..) being compromised. The worst thing is is that info can then be shared and potentially come back to haunt folks in other parts of the world.
So, aside from that fact that you're calling out some folks on this board that deserve a whole lot more respect (and listening to) than you are giving them; no one is jumping all over the "OPSEC bandwagon", they really are just trying to protect peoples lives downrange. If you have a problem with that, than you sign up and head on over to Southwest Asia and see how you feel if people sitting back in the States are potentially ending your life.
Nuff said!!!

USN Intel Guy,
You make a great and convincing argument for the importance of OPSEC, in this case. Where I didn't see it before, I do now.
I don't want anyone compromised anymore than you do. I just was ranting on the SOCNET double standard that does exist.
Do I REALLY care? Of course not. It's a message board, for Pete's sake.
But I stand corrected. I appreciate the lack of name-calling and such, in your post. A well worded reproach is never taken wrongly by myself.

No details but here's a pic of them operating for you:
