For those of you with firsthand knowledge, what are your opinions of the French Marine Corps? I am more interested in training than anything else, particularly infantry minor tactics and platoon/company proficiancy.

Cheers! http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/smile.gif

The French "Marines" are actually part of the Army, although some of them receive amphibious training.

At one time they were called Colonial troops and operated under the control of the Navy.

The closest thing the French have to Marines are the COFUSCO units. They handle naval base security, maritime counter terrorism, maritime special operations, ship boardings, etc.

Didn't a group of French Marines win the Eco-Challenge one year?
