The French Navy's (Marine Nationale)special operations unit is COFUSCO. The combat swimmer unit is Commando Hubert, and it's maritime CT unit is GCMC. I've got a pages on all three unit's up on www.specwarnet.net (http://www.specwarnet.net)

Tom may have linked to them under his international unit section. I'm not sure though.

Actually, Commando Hubert is the diver unit specialized in explosive diposal or underwater sabotage, but there is also Commando de Montfort, wich is tasked with VIP protection. Cdo de Montfort also provides most operators for navy GCMC (close quarter combat group) assigned to boarding ops and shipboard/oil rig ops. It's probably the closest thing the French have to DevGru. And there is Commando de Lorient, it's a training unit.

Doesn't 2nd REP have a combat swimmer company as well?

3rd Company, 2 REP - Mostly surface ops, small boats and the like. Some are SCUBA trained.

1rst Company, 1 REG - Same as above, but also heavy into mines and explo.

DINOPS, 1 REG - Closed circuit trained, hydro-recon, inland demo, etc.... This section doesn't emphasize small arms nearly enough, but they're quite good in the water.

13th DBLE, Djibouti - One section of recon swimmers. This section is sort of an after thought...Not very well trained, but maybe that has changed in the last few years.

Since I've been out of the loop, I've heard that 2 REI has an engineer detachment that has some connection to DINOPS.

Also the newly formed 2 REG may also follow French tradition of having a DINOPS section attached to them, being an engineer regiment.

I would imagine that GCP of 2 REP (Legion Spec-OPs) formerly CRAP would have amphibious capability as well.
