Does anyone have any field experience with the Sig Pro 9mm? I was wondering if it's performance and accuracy is just the same as say a P226 or 229, and it's just a little better looking and composed of a different material. I'm considering picking one up but have not found much material on the subject. I would think JY might know, he knows everything.
Thanks in advance.

Shurefire,

The Sig Pro is a new design that takes advantage of polymer frame technology. The frame has the standard accessory rail and interchangable grips. All the standard Sig features like the decocker are there. The best thing about it (and all Sig handguns) is the full-length slide rail. This improves accuracy and stabilization.

I have used both and they are equally fine firearms. The Sig Pro is a bit smaller so take that into consideration for a carry or competition firearm. The Pro is essentially the same weight as the P226, and the recoil is about the same. I wasn't really impressed with the way the Sig Pro felt in my hands. The factory grip didn't seem to fit my hands (I didn't try other grips). The 226 is better in my opinion here.

Some considerations about Sig. The P226 is getting very hard to find new. According to Sig, they are not really shipping any until they get caught up on their military and LE contract work. As for pricing, the Pro line is a little cheaper.

My personal preference...the Sig P226 all the way. Just because it's what I've used for the past several years. Of course, it's all up to the individual shooter. Whatever feels right and you can hit with.

Let me know if you need more specific information.

Be safe and take care.

Thanks alot BD, reason why I'm asking is that I am familiar with the 226 and 229 but I've never come across a Pro. I love the 228 because it fits my smaller hands better than the 226. I'm trying to decide what Xmas present I should get for myself a new 229 or a Glock 19. But there are safety issues involved because of the family you know. Thanks for the help.
Happy Hunting

Hi surefire;

bd covered it pretty well, I'm a P226 snob myself, have carried and used it in combat and as a civilian concealed weapon. They are hard to find right now, I'm looking for the .357 SIG version now (P226 .357 SIG)

I also have a P229 in .357 SIG and it is also a great weapon, if small hands try the P225 single stack magazine 9mm very flat good for concealed carry much like the P 228 but thinner in grip. The SIG pro hasn't impressed me that much, if you want a poly framed very safe pistol look at the Steyr M out it has a key type lock built into the frame to the rear of the take down lever. When storing the weapon you use the key to rotate the look to the left totally locking up the weapon, in addition you have a trigger type block as on the Glock PLUS a MANUAL safety that is easy to move to fire by the finger as it enters the trigger guard. Niether of these are on a GLOCK(and the GLOCK needs additional safties)

I've also been looking at the new P 225 a compact P 220 .45 it's a sweetheart too...so many SIGs so little money 8(

Take care, if I can help any further feel free to ask...Jim

Hi JY,

If you're interested, I know where you can get brand new P226's in .357 Sig all day long. We've got a Sig authorized shop here that is always real good about being able to get things when others can't. We deal with them all the time and they are very nice and give good deals. 226 price depends on weather you're LEO or not. They are about $650.00 out the door for civvies. The .357 to .40 conversion is real simple too if you're a .40 fan (not me tho'). Just drop in the .40 barrel which is I think $100.00 or so.

I agree with you on the Glock...it does need additional safety features. I was in a competition earlier this fall and watched a guy DQ because he wasn't familiar with his own Glock (17C I think). It "went off" on him. Right.

Let me know if you're interested in more Sig info.

Take care and be safe.

JY:

I must agree. The 226 is the better choice. The Sig Pro feels too "bulky". My 226 comes out of the holster and on target very easily, handles well, and has never had a malfunction in 17,000 rounds on ammo. Some of it foreign shit.

The 226 is a damn good weapon. I found that concealed carry in hot Atlanta sometimes prevented me carrying due to its size. I augment my 226 with a Kahr K40. Nice round and nice small package.

Not much to say other than many stamps of approval for the SIG 226. Take care.

Thanks Guys, great responses, you answered everything for me. You're right about the 226, I'd love to get my paws on one but my paws are not large enough to hold it comfortably and securely. A LE buddy of mine is offering me his 9mm 229 that he has had for 2 months went 300 rounds through for $350. I'm not going to pass this offer up. Oh BTW, JY I got to plink a couple jerry cans this past weekend with the P225. Great piece. Hope y'all had a great holiday. Have a great New Year. -Shure
