If I'm not mistaken the largest gun ever used was used to launch rocket assisted projectiles into space in a study by NASA for alternative ways of sending things into space...There was a show of weapons at war devoted to big guns and that was on it...but I think there was 1 that was bigger...I know Iraq was buidling one that was but it was never completed

Hi Tyicgerman;

That's an easy one...the one pointed at you =80 And that's from experience 8)

Specify hand, shoulder fired or crew served. Currently available handgun would be the .500 linebaugh(old timer, the .577 Howdah Pistols and others), rifle the Aerotek NTW 20/14.5mm AMR (could be a newer one these things are getting out of hand), crew served...maybe the German Thor Mortar from WW II (that got out of hand too)

Have a specific type let us know. take care...Jim

Almost forgot about the Maadi Griffon .50BMG PISTOL!(12.7X99MM)believe it had a 14 inch barrel. Saw a photo of the designers 14 year old daughter firing it, was a sight to behold =80 And she lived! has to be the biggest handgun, .50 BMG is one heck of a pistol round!

it exists, I've seen the same pic; *big* muzzle flash, *big* muzzle brake too :-)

she was standing remotely still in the pic--course that could just be a before shot :-)

Nissan- I was thinking along the same lines. Both the Iraqi "Super Gun" and the satellite launching gun were developed by the same guy, a Canadian named Dr. Gerald Bull. The reason the "Super Gun" was never completed is because Bull was shot dead by unknown assailants in a hotel hallway. There is a book dealing with this entitled "Arms and the Man", but I can't remember the name of the author.

Hi Nissan;

As Mac stated it's for real, and the little girl shot it 8) As for recoil, I've fired military .50 rifles for a long while, and own a couple of my own, recoil from the baddest is about like a 12ga shotgun with slugs. The muzzle breaks do a great job on them. Did like the movie "Pushing Tin" though 8)

Take care...Jim

jy,
Single shot bolt action on the .50bmg pistol? Like other long range rifle caliber conversions? Thanks!

xcop: The pistol was a chopped Maadi-Griffin, not something like the Lone Eagle, T/C Encore, or one of the 1911 kits (Dominator and SASS). However, many years ago American Handgunner published a photo of fellow who was firing his homemade .50 BMG single-shot conversion on a 1911 frame. The impressive muzzle flash was more than enough to illuminate the photo without the use of a flashbulb. The inventor claimed that he would have made a 20mm conversion if the loading dies were not so expensive. http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/wink.gif

Hi xcop;

Yup, the look a lot like the LAR Big Bore. A cartridge holder type bolt, remove the entire bolt insert cartridge into shell holder like clip and insert. Actually the most accurate bolt for a .50.

Hi D.E. nice mod on UO! Yup old troopers like it too! Good work. Take care...Jim

In my country, Finland a well known gun maker
called Helenius has also made a .50 BMG pistol, it has a siluet pistol like wood stock and if i remember right a 14 " barrel and a HUGE muzzle brake.

JY: There is a good reason why the Maadi-Griffin and LAR Big Bore look alike. LAR used to be one of the sub-contractors for Maadi-Griffin. Since they were making so many of the rifle's parts themselves, LAR decided to run off and improve the design on their own.

PS: Thanks for the kind words on the mod. It is always nice to see that folks read the credits. http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/wink.gif

Hi D.E.;

Yup was aware of that, Tom has a link to Maadi-griffin from the .50 section contains a rather small pic of the .50 pistol.

Always read the credits! With the Mexico City and Kosovo maps would be nice to see a sniper type scenario using the great weapons you've added. Would have to play with the tango AI for willing targets though. Wishing you and your partners in crime much success, take care...Jim
