Saw a photo in today's paper of a female F14 pilot gearing up. Didn't know they let women fly combat aircraft... do they??

It started in 1994, when the first women were assigned to USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69).

Enfield, what do you think about female
F-14s pilots?

Nothing, I just dind't think the US let women into combat roles. And I remember haring about some problems they had training female pilots.

Depends on whether she puts out on the first date!

They do earn it and end up damn good pilots. Who cares who's flying it anyway....just as long as the job gets done.

Putting out on the first date?? Nah, that's not the criteria. It's who can keep a straight face when they see you drop your pants!!!!!
In all due seriousness, however, I did see a Discover channel special that said that women pilots actually performed better in the combat flight simulators than men did. They said it had a lot to do with a woman's hand/eye coordination. Evidently in certain situations it reacts faster.

No subs, AF helos, and ground combat jobs. (All for obvious reasons.) Anything else is fair game if they're willing and most importantly, capable.

It's well known that, as a whole, F-14 drivers are grossly inferior to their F/A-18 counterparts. While F/A-18 aviators are expected to and master both fighter and attack roles as a single aviator, F-14 drivers need the assistance of a GiB to fight the plane.

"Womens hand to eye coordination is faster"..That's a good opening for a joke.
Honestly, I have heard that it has something to do with the pelvic area, women are able to handle G-forces better than men, I dunno...

F-14 pilots inferior? What the hell Mtech?
As long as we're throwing out vague, unsubstantiated statements, Everyone knows the F-18's an inferior plane.
You hear of the F-14 bombcat? Comes with its own LANTIRN pods and a 500 mile unrefueled range with four bombs. The new F-18E/F can only manage 350 miles and with about half the payload. The F-18C's out in the fleet can't carry the same load as the Tomcat either. I'd go into detail, but OPSEC, you know. Do some research though and you can find out for yourself, the info's out there and not that hard to find.
The Tombcat has superior range and payload over the hornet, and a faster cruise. It's true it can't sustain high-rate turns as well as the hornet, but really,
Sure the F-14 has two people, but with that you get more capacity. And possibly, since the workload is less you're going to get less friendly fire incidents caused by basic human error.

Give up muckracking for a hobby, but it is so darn amusing.
specwarnet, pop open a beer, I'm just being a smartass. I am more than adequately familiar with both the capabilities of the F/A-18 and F-14. ( I guess I probably should, considering I have hours in both of them.) I'm also aware that (last I checked, my real job gets in the way of me staying up to date in my old one) there are certain limitations as to what the Bombcat can effectively carry and use.
Besides, ever seen an F-14 land on a carrier deck? Looks ungainly and awkward, ergo the "Turkey" nickname. An F/A-18 (especially if I was landing it) was a thing of great beauty and grace to watch. (Not as much as Pink, RLK, but a close second.)

Yeah, the F-14s a real ugly plane, beaten on looks by the F-18, but both beaten by Kiwi A-4s! :D
Just for the record Specwar, the reason the F-18 has one person is because its a lot more user friendly with all this uptodategizmocrap thats in it.
But Im a helo guy, what do I know? :D
