I have a question for any active duty or recently retired marines, and/or practitioners of the martial art Pekiti-tirsia kali. I met a gentleman the other day who insists that hes the Close cobat instructor for the marine corps Force recon. He kept spouting on about his system(pekiti-tirsia) and his qualifications. Can anyone confirm or deny whether or not tirsia is currently or was recently practiced by the marine corps? I would appreciate any sort of correspondence from marines as I look forward to the opportunity to defraud this gentleman.
Philippine FR, or US? It is not a system endorsed by the USMC but that doesn't mean that an in-house training or guest instruction by someone never took place. Consider that there any number of professions and people well outside the mil community that can say they trained a mil unit in something, from turning wrenches to shooting or self-defense.

He insits US Force recon, which is all im concerned with. He went on to bash the army special forces training, as well as the SEALs and Duane Dieter, all the while talking about how effective and deadly his method is. I asked about it thoroughly and he insists hes the official trainer and is under contract. Sounded like he was full of shit, and it appears that im correct. Anyone else have any info on this? I appreciate your reply Xdeth.

this statement should tell you all you need to know
Do unit CO's have authority to contract SME's for stuff like this?
We had some Judo and Kajukenbo Masters give instruction to the various units at Schofield Barracks. However, they volunteered their time and we accepted. No money changed hands.

Yes, there are a couple ways to get it paid for depending on the cost and duration.

I wish I could hit him in the mouth, being from Virginia beach its unbelievable how many people impersonate special operators, instructors, or whatever else makes them feel better about themselves. Unfortunately I can only correspond with him online right now. He has since put his tail between his legs and changed his story after hearing that I was verifying his story with REAL marines. Its too bad he didnt take it a little further so I could catch him with his pants down. Thanks again guys.

We worked with the PhilMar Force Recon guys and they went through a school on Pekiti. They taught us some of the stuff and it was pretty cool but I had never even heard of it until we worked with them.

This guy is obviously full of shit!
Get tired of hearing about some supposed "FR, SEAL, SF, etc. Instructor" Where are his creds? What books, manuals, etc. has he written to support his claim?
Fuck him...wouldn't even waste my time replying to that assclown.
As for "the martial art Pekiti-tirsia kali" any art is only as good as it's practitioners. PhilFR "used" to be pretty locked on in basic reconnaissance years ago, but they have all become pretty boys (as with the rest of Filipino 'specops') with the influx of US equipment, training & $$$. I invited them to exhibition classes at no cost a few years ago in Cavite. They were all up for it until it got close to the actual class date. Never heard from them again.
You've got to remember that the military over here is highly politicized, under-funded & corrupt as hell. Its all good, just as long as they do not actually have to come into physical contact & it doesn't interfere with drinking & videoke time. :D

I seriously doubt that FMF Recon has a martial-art program separate from the one which the Corps has developed in the last few years and is now required training for all Marines (the training is even pegged to your military rank promotions). Trying to keep up with two at once seems counterproductive.
My friend Jack Hoban, one of the SMEs who helped develop it, just returned from doing some further teaching for program instructors at Quantico and he told me a couple of days ago that it's turning into something really good.
For info on the Corps' current program, see https://www.tbs.usmc.mil/Pages/MA/Welcome.htm

This is my info from across the pond so it may stand correction.
At USMC Camp Schwab in Okinawa circa 1998,Capt. Kelly McCann, was hand
to-hand combat instructor.
He believed in a very linear, direct style of fighting. Very straightforward
and very violent.
USMC h-t-h combat has three main sources. First from John Styers who
trained the USMC from the 1930s' until the 1950s'. He was wounded at
Iwo Jima. The second source was Capt. Bruce Fairburn, a Brit who had
served in the Royal Marine Light Infantry and the Shanghai Municipal
Police. His technique has a jujitsu base, a throwing and striking type of
fighting.
The third system was developed by Col. David Ben-Asher, IDF. He started
Krav-Maga which is again very direct.
Summing it up McCann calls the combinations as the Styers Technique since
he is the granddaddy of it all.
The Marine is trained for what a normal person can do - Punch, kick, blows
to the body, grabs and throws trying to make sure that that the fight is over
in five seconds. There is no airy fairy high kicking or acrobatics.
The whole point is to close in and get it over so you can move on.
Per Mare per Terram- Semper Fidelis.
