Do MEU's have there on MP's. What im trying to say is, do MP's just stay at bases and guard or do they get to go out and help the Infantry units and the MEU units while they are doing a mission. I am having trouble wording this, any help? Thanks

Chris -

Basically as explain before there are 2 types of MP's. Dickhead polesmoking asshole base MP's who are the base patrol. Like cops only not as qualified and much more immature. The other is division who basically deal with POW's during war time. These do deploy on MEU's but have nothing to do with the infantry.

If you looking to be cool or do cool stuff be a grunt. You will not regret it.

I have the Camp Marine CD rom, I got it from the Marine Corps. It says that MP's do small unit Reconnasiance and they support the infantry, like they clear the way for the tanks when they are going down the road on a peacekeeping mission. I would want to do that stuff, I wouldnt want to be stuck on a base anywhere.

Reconnaissance is an often over used term. I think security patrols would be closer to the functional “reconnaissance” performed by the MPs. The primary function of the division’s MP is to maintain the functionality and management of the MSRs (Main Supply Route), basically traffic control and management. The MP also have the primary responsibility for EPW handling. They do, often carry out ersatz infantry work, if the need arises, but that can also be said of everyone in the ground combat element.

I think the MP's should have a special forces unit kinda like a SWAT team. Does anyone know if this would be likely to happen or not?

The job that MP do most of the time is either standing at the gate to the base waiving Marines and Saluting officers onto the base. Or traffic duty, sitting there giving tickets for speeding, also seen them doing crossing guard duty for the base elementary school. They do the occasion investigation, drug sweep, arrest of shop lifters. But most of their jobs aren’t fun. And most of the Marines dislike them.

In addition to what 0802 stated, The MP's do conduct recon, but it is not your conventional type of recon. They will work closely with the CEBs providing security while they conduct mine breeches and planning MSR routes that the rest of the Btln will follow. The do operate on the FEBA a great deal and have been involved in several missions in the last 10 years.

I beg to differ, I have seen many of times where they were at the very front, escpecially when conducting mine breeches, because the grunts can't go through mine field until the CEBs clear them a path, and the MPs were the ones that were preparing the lane and setting up security for the CEBs so the rest of the Btln can go through. Now we all know that this is a very short period when this happens, but at the same time it does occur.

I am not trying to make MPs out to be better than the grunts, because we all know they are not, but there are several MPs that I know that have my respect and at no time will I ever disrespect them or knock them to try and look "mightier than thou."
