ONBOARD USS ALABAMA (AFPN) -- Airmen with the 22nd and 23rd Special Tactics squadrons quickly descend from a helicopter rope onto the deck of this submarine in the Pacific Ocean during an exercise. The exercise tested special operations infiltration and rescue tactics. (U.S. Navy photo by Master Chief Petty Officer Daniel J. Niclas)

That's way cool! Can anyone enlighten me as to why the doors on the HH-60 are orange? It seems like that would mess up the low-vis paint scheme.

Orange doors were always "Student Pilot" for us

They're like big "STUDENT DRIVER" signs for helicopters.

Cool photo.

"Alabama!" Wonder if Gene Hackman or Denzel were on board?

The orange means that it is a test aircraft or that the parts that are orange are being tested. This is probably a test bed aircraft.

Probably not true on the testing of parts!
The Navy has some SAR units that perform Civil SAR and they have the Orange paint for visual purposes. Navy Fallon birds have the same scheme.

It is usually on electronic gear inside that they paint orange, if it is a test instrument. I wasn't referring to the cowlings on the ac. It probably is one of the 60's from Patuxent River that is being tested. I think that it is the new SH-60 derivative. I tested a few planes down there and we always had orange boxes inside of them as well as orange chase planes in some cases.
