Hi, I have few questions regarding 37F. So far researching it on the internet answered a lot of questions about training and what their mission is. When I asked my recruiter he said it was typically a deskjob that makes propaganda. His example was that they made Pamphlets saying the 10th MT division had to kill their moms to get in, and the Pamphlets were airdropped into afghanistan. That was the extent of his answer. My main questions are in regard to enlisting and contracting.
I'll start by telling you the situation I'm in. Right now Im a Split Op in between BCT and AIT for 42L. I enlisted with the plan to go active duty after BCT. I've got the go from my seniors for a conditional release. I'm really really set on getting an active duty contract as a 37F. Is 37F something a PFC is going to be able to reenlist in or is 37F open only for enlisting as reservist and senior slots? Is there anyway I would be able to figure out the likely hood that this mos will be offered to me, when their training cycles are, and if their are still slots open this year. Last time I went to MEPS with expectations I was offered the two last MOS's that I would pick. I dont know my line scores but my asvab was a 76, is that to low for this mos? My other side question is, would it be worth studing a language prior to AIT. I'm taking russian outta curiousity and wonding if thats a language even offered for the army right now.
thanks

Your recruiter is a moron.

What he said!
You need a 110 GT score and a DLAB of 85 to get this MOS. Find out what yours are, compare and contrast, then report back.

Your recruiter is indeed a moron. You have to kill your mom to get into the 101st....not 10th Mtn.
On a side note....Psyop is a great job.

I'll call up and demand my line scores, then let you guys know. Also is there usually a bonus for 37F, not to count my eggs before they hatch?

Your Unit should have your line scores, they will be in your 201 file on your DA Form 2-1, block 8.
37F is an accession (entry level) MOS, so it should be available to you depending on your test scores and slots available.
It's unanimous: Your recruiter is a moron.
1. Get a new recruiter.
2. Tell the old recruiter's supervisor you didn't think he was being honest, and that's why you are unwilling to work with him.
3. Tell the old recruiter to come here and pass his Psyop knowledge to us.

Thanks for the info I've got a mobex drill this weekend, I'll see if I cant get my 1sgt to pull my line scores out for me. If I get to meps and they dont give this to me as a choice, is there anything really in my power I can do? I suppose if it was my asvab I could retake those, but anything else.

I would definitely advise you to ask your 1SG for assistance. If he is doing his job he should be able to seperate the bullshit from facts and keep that MORON in check.

Your scores are good. As far as DLAB tests.... Once again your 1SG can find the answers. If you are near an Active Duty Post try looking up the Post language lab or Education center. More than likely you'll need a DA 4187 signed by your CO to take the test.

Is it something that you think would be set up after I sign up for the mos. When I signed up for Admin specialist i had to take an entry typing test then when u graduate ait u take another one.
What do you usually put in an offical statement why and what you plan on doing to get released. Is it usually a really formal request to write.

When I left the reserve, I did not have to submit a request, my recruiter did that, all I had to do was convince my commander to sign a request for conditional release.
Ditch your recruiter, pay someone 50 Bucks to beat him up, then go find a new one. You will still count as credit towards recruitment goals for active duty, so it doesnt really matter. Call around to different recruiters and explain your situation to them, see if they can help. If you find one that needs a contract, he will do what is in his best interest to help you. Dont get your PSYOP information from a recruiter, get it from here or find someone that has BTDT experience.

Going to finish my all the paper work tommorrow with my unit/recruiter so hopefully I'll get MEPs this week. I also told the recruiter again that 37F is what I want and started pushing him to figure out DLAB out for me. I think he is starting to get the idea but he's still pushing me being mil intel.......Does any one know off the top of their heads if DLAB is something i need to take b4 or after meps

If you are going to attend standard 10 level AIT for 37F, then you should take a DLAB during your school. If you are not MOS qualified in any field, then it should just be a simple matter of sending you to the schoolhouse, Im almost positive that as an IET (Initail Entry Training) student, you arent required to take a DLAB. Especially if your considering reserve PSYOP, they are not required to attend language training.

Not to barge in this thread, but I had a question about psyops somewhat similar to this. I am currently E5 11B in the National Guard. I have thought about moving over to the reserves for psyops, but I wasn't sure how the selection worked for it. The second thing is, I don't know the MOS distinction but I know there are guys that go out into the villages and whatnot, and the guys who make the propaganda (excuse my bad terminology). I am interested in going out on the patrols and such, not so much in making propaganda or radio stuff (again I don't know how much about this). Can anyone point me in the right direction on what MOS and what I need to do to get into the Psyops world in the reserves (aside from I know I need conditional release and acceptance into the unit). If anyone is in the reserves and in a Psyop unit in Illinois that would be of even greater help :) Thanks in advance.
