Need some help gentlemen.

Just rebuilt a Steyr AUG and installed a new locking piece on the bolt. The weapon fired correctly for about 15 rounds then jammed. I checked the gas adjustment, but it seems to be fine.

Two malfunctions occur. One - a empty casing will get lodged between the bolt face and chamber resting backwards jamming during full auto fire. I am unsure how that can happen. Two - empty casing and live cartridge jam in the entrance to the chamber causing a double feed.

To all operators out there, let me know your experiences and ideas on how to correct this. Not an AUG expert, so I need some assistance. Thanks.

One just came in the shop with the customer complaining about the same thing...

What was the fix?

Hi Kmiller;

Not a big fan of the weapon but check your extractor(weak spring or faulty extractor) and the ejector for weak spring or frozen. Both will leave the empty inside receiver. If it's stripping a fresh round from the mag your gas setting sounds ok, if it does so but fails at others back to the gas setting. Also recheck the locking piece, that it's moving correctly since it's the last part changed, could be tight, could be burred slowing the bolt down(slight chance but Mr Murphy loves the AUG).

Hope this helps with the problem, think the AUG should be called the UGH 8) Take care, and good luck with the UGH 8)...Jim

Gentlemen,

Thanks for you help JY. I looked at the AUG the same day I had posted the original message and compared used ejector and extractor springs to new ones and noticed a slight compression on the used ones. Installed new springs and headed out to the range and she ran beautifully.

Though belated, thanks for you assistance. It is always nice to have a forum to discuss weapons issues. Take care.
