Hey Guys,

What is the standard issue rifle for the Israeli military? Most weapons I see them armed with are the M4's. So what is the standard issue assault rifle of the Israeli military?

Thanx in advance,
ASD

Standard issue is one of those funny words, the Israeli's have a lot of rifles in their inventory.

The Galil's, M-16A1, M-16A2, CAR-15, M-4,
FN FAL, M-14, AK-47's, AKM's

Though you see a lot more troops in the news armed with US Issue weapons (M-16's, CAR-15's, M-4's) so that sounds right to me. Makes you wonder what would have happened if their domestic plans to produce the IMI M-203 Bullpup and such went through eh?

Almost forgot...

Have seen pics of some Israeli troops armed with the M-16A4 rifle as well. So their continunally updating their inventory it seems.

Hi ASD;

Currently the IDF is using the M16A1, M16A2, CAR 15,M4A1 as infantry weapons. The M16A3/A4 is now comming into to service replacing the early versions as they become avail. the designated riflemaen are getting the A3/A4 rifles first with the ACOG day optic.

The M4A1 is replacing the CAR15s in most units and a lot of the full size rifles. The old FALs have been sold off for the most part, with the Galils and older M16s going to reserves and the M14s to the home guard.

The Sniper Weapon System is now the M-24 SWS 7.62X51mm replacing the old M21s, Mausers and others.

take care...Jim

Regarding standard issue rifles:

The standard issue in all combat units expect for the artillery corps and the armored corps is the M16 variants (mainly CAR15 and M4, designated marksman- M16A2). The artillery corps and armored corps are all armed with IMI Galil SAR (Glilon). Reserve gets M16A1 and CAR15 and M14 as SWS.

As far as I know the Mouser SWS are still in service as the standard sniper rifle for close range sniping (the mouser version used now, the SR 82 only arrived in mid 90’s).

The pic in question was from a link JY sent me, I think it was from a page on Tom';s site but I can't guarantee that 100%.

I'll dig around and see what I can find.

For TR

That is a M16A2 (fixed loop) not M16A4 (flat top). I’m not sure the M16A4 are in service yet

For JY

All the Israeli troops I saw (both in real life and in photos) were all armed with fixed loop M4, not with flat top M4A1, are you sure they entered service in the IDF?

I was wondering if you have more Israeli SF pics. The one you put in the m4 page is great. Maybe you can post them on sochat, and if there’s problem with troops’ identity in the photos you can simply delete their faces.

JY might have some, I can always obscure the faces if need be for OPSEC.
