The caption says that he jumped with no chute, but when he's crawling into the second plane it looks like he has one on his back- just didn't use it. Maybe more experienced eyes can tell.

Unless he was bringing his backpack to school, sure looked like one to me.

But then again, what the f do I know.

The caption is wrong. The guy definitely has a rig on. It's still a pretty wild stunt.

The guy in the video is Greg Gasson.... the Guy leaving with the red and yellow suit is Omar Alhegalan
http://www.aerialstuntservice.com/greggasson.htm

They did the stunt more than once using bigger planes and more jumpers...
http://www.joejennings.com/planeto.htm Greg is the one in the picture getting ready to climb in. This shot is over skydive Arizona in Eloy AZ

Last of all.... no Greg Gasson post would be complete without this.....

Can you imagine what the risk assessment would look like if you were trying to make Uncle Sam pay for it..............

I think Patrick de Gayardon did this first with a wingsuit into a Porter. I want to say some other guys did it before Patrick, but I don't know the names or details, just some fuzzy memories in the back of my brain. Patrick was definitely the first with a wingsuit and MAY have been the first in freefall....I just don't remember.

Greg Gasson was the first two plane stunt that I had ever heard of, Patrick de Gayardons wingsuit stunt was a bit different.... He exited the porter with his wing suit on, flew NEXT to the porter for a short while, then flew back INTO the same porter. http://home.nordnet.fr/~paramag/archives/n129/article/article-us.html There is a pretty awesome clip of him doing a skysurfing tandem in "Crosswind" also if you are able to get your hands on a copy. The movie "Good Stuff" also has quite a few unusual jumps.

Loïc Jean-Albert is another guy that does some pretty unreal things in freefall with a wingsuit.

....I am just happy I can exit without hitting my head on something!!!

I'd forgotten one was into the same plane, another involved two different planes.

Crosswind and Soul Flyers 2 are on my To Order list. I've seen the clips of Lois over Mt. Verbier (sp?) and I'm told the stuff on Soul Flyers 2 is actully better than that.

Didn't Eric Fradet do a tandem skysurf as well? I think he and Patrick did a 2/4-way on boards.

August needs to hurry up so I can jump again. You Raefordites need to drive to FL for the winter....

I have never seen or heard any freefall related connection to the James Bond stunt when he rides the dirt bike off the cliff and swoops the porter.

...what DZ in FLA are you closest to?

I am closest to Skydive Palatka, followed by Deland, Space Center is 3 hours, Lake Wales around 3 1/2, Sebastian and Z-hills around 4 hours' drive. I can make Raeford in about 6 hours so Raeford to Deland would be 8 I'm guessing.

This is from Good Stuff. Still a ballsy move though:cool:

ETA...I'm pretty sure there's a cable or something around his wrist. (not taking away from the clankyness of it...just pointing that out)

I don't see anything strapped on here. It was hard for me to watch.

Ok.

This is not really a plane to plane stunt, but i guess it would have been feasible for Yannick...;)

One of the better videos I've seen so far....enjoy!

I don't see a rig on this one. Sone one doesn't seem to have that much to live for.

As a young MFFJM in the early 90s, I was privileged to be mentored at the paraloft by MCPO Harry O'Connor. He told me a story about a competition where jumpers followed their rigs out the door - I always wondered if the crusty ol Master Chief was just having fun with his boot HM2.

Agree with Titlest - very hard to watch!

You're accurate in your observation. Not to spoil "the illusion" but I know Greg. He shared with me that he was in fact wearing a type of body harness under his clothing connected by a small snap link to the leg straps of his container. There's a couple pics 'out there' where you can just make out the outline of webbing along the inside of his shirt sleeve.

As a side note. Greg did this stunt a few times. While soliciting sponsorship he performed each stunt wearing a rig from each of the major sport rig manufacturers at that time (early nineties). After submitting video to each, Sun Path Products Inc was the only company that bit and used still photos of the jump on promotional photos for their Javelin harness/container.

And that's why my first container was an Odyssey

The 'No parachute' jump is Travis Pastrana, it was a stunt for a video that was done without the blessings of the USPA S&T representatives or board of directors. The USPA pulled all of his ratings for doing the stunt without following USPA waiver protocol. Then he cried about it and circulated a petition to get his ratings back. I am certain the USPA reinstated is license but not the instructional ratings.

Greg Gasson on the other hand has done numerous stunts like the 'hanging from the rig' stunt. Beyond just having a cable under his sleeve there is also a spreader bar to keep the riser separated so the canopy will not collapse.

Greg Gasson is a professional parachutist. Travis Pastrana seems more like an adrenalin junkie and an attention whore...
...just my two cents. I dont know either of them beyond the publicity they gather by their chosen professions.

The first plane-to-plane jump I saw was about 25-30 years ago. IIRC, a jumper exited a Cessna and chased a two-seat biplane. The jumper docked on one of the inboard struts and hung on like a wing-walker. There was some TV show that showcased it.

I re-enlisted Harry in Free Fall in 1986. He went on to do stunts at Hollywood. As you may know, he was killed doing a stunt for the movie, Triple X with Vin Diesel.

When he and I worked together, he took leave and worked "Drop Zone" (94 Snipes movie), where he stunt doubled for the "Swoop" character. He then got our CO to authorize a command-wide sneak preview at the NAB theater. I was gratified that the producers put in the RIP plug at the end of Triple X.
