Hello everyone,

Good to be back. Have been reading alot about the Reflex's and was wondering if anyone here uses them? Do you prefer the Dot or Triangle? Gotta love that tritium. Jihad

Hi jihad;

The 3moa dot is the issue sight, think the reason behind it is it's quicker than the triangle. You paste the dot on target and squeeze, with the triangle you have to place it's apex on the point of aim...slows you down in combat. Would be better for target though as is more precise. Myself, I like the dot, but then only use the reflex for CQB type ranges.

Take care...Jim

I actually had the chance to speak with the designer of the Trijicon Reflex sights at the Shot Show. He told me that the Triangle reticle was in response to the suggestions of members of various SOF units who asked for it.

They wanted the flexibility of a sight that could be used for CQB as well as for more distant shooting. You use the Triangle as you would the Dot during CQB. I find that my eye picks up the Triangle shape faster than the Dot and allows me to react faster. Most folks prefer a large Dot for CQB so you can acquire it faster and shoot. In CQB you do not use the tip of the Triangle, you use it the same way as a Dot reticle, you put it center mass on the enemy's chest or head and shoot.

The downside to Dot reticles is that at longer ranges(100-300m), some of the larger Dots are very hard to use to aim at a person because at distance the dot appears so large the body is basically obstructed from view. It slows things down thats for sure.

But, by using the very tip of the Triangle you can get a precise aimpoint. So,in my opinion, the Triangle reticle is a good tool for guys who cannot commit to one specific type of shooting such as only CQB or only more distant engagements. I think it is ideal for a unit like the Rangers who may have to engage enemy on rooftops,etc., in an urban area at distances of 50-300 meters, and then have to clear a building in the same neighborhood. It is also a good general purpose sight for SWAT, etc.

I am not an expert in this area, but have actually shot this sight under various conditions. I like it and recommend it. Semper Fi.

Wouldn´t the a system with a optical sight(3-4x) underneath and a reflex sight on top be ideal, almost like the HK G36?
This means that you can engage targets at different ranges without having to resort to iron sights.
I prefer some sort of optical magnification since in recon we usually have longer ranges than a "normal" unit since we often spot the enemy before they spot us and the squad is to small to engage infantry units at close range.

I think when I buy one I'll try and get my hands on one of those hard to find 5.1 MOA Triangles. Should be easier to pick up than 12.5 MOA Triangle, but still be able to use for longer range shots. Do most units use the Reflex or Aimpoint? Or is it just dependant on the situation. Do both have military contracts? Jihad

Hi jihad;

Both the ACOG Reflex and the M68(AimPoint Comp M) are inventory items at this time. The ACOG Reflex has the biggest following because it requires NO batteries and is part of the SOPMOD M4 kit. The reflex is used for both CQB and night use with 7D's the amber dot is more NOD's friendly, plus the housing does not create as much "shadow" as the M68. The dot appears almost the same as the laser dot of a PAQ4 or other normal laser sight, and of course invisible to the target, unlike the PAQ4 et al.

When issued it's a trade off deal, for longer ranges the ACOG 4X32 replaces the reflex or M68, have posted a photo on SOCCHAT of "normal" way of transporting the M4A1 with ACOG and M68 attached(Reflex would be attached in same location as M68). When using weapon one would be removed dependant on the situation/mission at hand. BUT if private purchase and only one sight system is available the triangle reflex is the best of both worlds in the reflex ACOG,though not as good as the NSN SOPMOD ACOG 4X32 scope with "ghost ring sights" for overall use.

Take care...Jim

Yea, what the one poster said about the reflex with the triangle, I was told the same thing Trijicon during SHOT show.
The only plus for the Aimpoint is the it's paralex free.. ie: wherever the red dot is, basically that is where the bullet is going to go, it's not eye position dependant.
BUT, I still think the reflex-II is better... It's a lots smaller sizewise and NO BATTERIES !
They are both really easy to shoot with both eyes open though, which is nice... I think the Trijicon is better though.
In a ideal world, I'd like to, somehow, have a Trijicon Reflex-II mounted above a U.S.Optics 1-4x scope (cannot remember the model number.)
My opinion
