Why don't most units in JSOC use the silencer on the M4A1. I only saw it twice and that was in GI-Jane and www.specialoperations.com. (http://www.specialoperations.com.)

why use it if you don't need to? it will bleed gas off the round and you lose FPS, lose FPS=lose energy, lose range; and for a surpressor to really be effective you have to use subsonic ammo which puts you at an automatic disadvantage at an engagement beyond close range. I'm sure Jim or some of the others here can elaborate much further than I can.

Sounds like you pretty much covered the reasons why it's not as common... it's usefull in certain situations. But you definately need the subsonic ammuniton-which as you pointed is not going to have the normal range capbilities as regular ammuniton.

That little article JY and I did is kind of funny in that it only took us about a month to put together. There is a slightly revised version of it pending-just a matter of Tom putting it up on the site when he gets the time.
