Taliban kill French officer in Afghanistan
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Reuters) - Taliban insurgents killed a French special forces officer in Afghanistan on Saturday and a Canadian officer was in critical condition after being attacked with an axe during a meeting with tribal elders.

It says, basically:

"On Saturday, 4 March 2006, a French naval officer was killed during a clash between a special forces detachment, committed to the south of Afghanistan within the framework of Operation Héraclès, and a Taliban element.

Committed to Afghanistan since the summer of 2003, 200 men belonging to the Special Operations Command (COS) and coming from various units of the Brigade of Land Special Forces (BFST), the Naval Commandos and the Air Commandos are participating in operations against the Taliban in southeast Afghanistan, under the command of and in cooperation with American special forces present in the region."
