What can anyone tell me about this weapon? I've seen a picture of it on the internet, and it is my favorite subgun in the video game Rainbow 6: Rogue Spear.

You can read about it at www.hkpro.com. (http://www.hkpro.com.) Basically it was developed as an economical substitute for the ubiquitous MP5 variants. Also as you may have noticed an SMG chambered in .45APC was absent in the Heckler and Koch official line up previous to the UMP. I don't know that much about the weapon but this is what I can gather from literature. I'm sure some people have had experience with this SMG on the board.

Recently, H&K ordered a recall on the UMP45 due to the cocking handle breaking off.

The UMP .45/.40 (.40S&W version of the UMP has replaced MP5/40 in HK's product line) is HK's first production SMG which operates without the previous roller-delayed-blowback action of the MP5-type SMGs. As mentioned above, there was a recent recall of UMPs and USCs because of breaking cocking-levers. The www.hkpro.com (http://www.hkpro.com) website and HK's official website at www.hecklerkoch-usa.com (http://www.hecklerkoch-usa.com) would both be helpful sources for those seeking more info.
