View Full Version : Redi Mag System

I was at the range last night and this Dept. of Energy guy was firing his M4 clone and he had this thing on the side of his receiver that he called a "Redi Mag system". Maybe I have been behind on my reading because of work, but how much do these things run for, they seem convenient, but sort of redundant considering there are Mag Clamps widely available and people still tape their magazines together. Do you know of any agencies/services/units that have adopted the Redi Mag? What are your opinions on this accessory? Is it just made for the M16 family or is there an MP5 series version? Also is it possible for the magazine to fall out of the makeshift "well"?
Thanks in advance

Redi Mag is a handy setup. Like most things, as long as you maintain it, it works ok. Mine sees regular use and has held up great.
Blue Press has them for like $70 I think.
Haven't seen an MP-5 version.

I have a Redi-Mag on my personal AR--recently completed an Urban Rifle course for police with it. The only drawback I have seen is that the Redi-Mag will interfere with your bolt release, requiring it to be manipulated by thumb pulling it out to lock bolt back rather than being able to hold the lower part of the bolt release in. If you install the system or look on someones else's it is readily apparent. Advantages are absolutely the fastest reload available--much superior to mag clamps, which can get in the way of the ejection port if not properly set up. Only places I've seen tape used is in bad movies.

Hi shurefire,

I must totally agree with xcop on the fact that Redi-Mag made one of the fastest, if not the fastest reload systems currently available for the M-16 family. And indeed the only drawback I encountered is a somewhat hard to reach bolt release. I have not seen one for the MP-5 series. But I can't imagine that Redi-Mag would leave that part of the market untouched.

.....And no, I'm not employed by Redi-Mag.

I was wondering about the other options for quick access to mags. I was wondering about using 100mph tape and 550 cord. How is that done exactly? Do you have to remove the magazine floorplate? Is using 550 cord the best way or just solely using tape and making a tab rather than a loop. Any help would be appreciated.

shurefire,
here's the string where JY gave the instructions for the 550 cord option: http://www.specialoperations.com/ubboard/Forum37/HTML/000137.html
