I've got a possible phony for you guys. I've given this nightinsertion character (up until recently a local on this bulletin board) long enough to prove his first hand accounts of SEAL training. I smelled BS from the start. There is little doubt in my mind that he is a phony, but I figured I bring you guys into the loop before calling it official.
It started out with his comment about the psych test giving during indoc. Now whether there currently is a test given or not, I don't know, but what got me thinking was that he said it he knew for sure it existed because he took it during indoc and that it came about because of the murder of that college girl by the two SEALs in early 90s. Well, the murder actually took place in the summer of 1995. Even though he probably should have known that, maybe it was an honest mistake. But then I started to do the math. Assume the NSW community moved quickly on this and started administering the psych test in January 1996. Well that puts the earliest graduation date for Mr. Nightinsertion in summer of 1996. While it's possible that he's gotten out after 3 years, it was suspicious enough for me to do some checking on.
This is what else I found that didn't quite match up.
Nightinsertion talking about an instructor:
"He was so hard that they stopped in from being a 1st phase proctor for a while. He made a lot of people go away before indoc even started. Our original numbers for our class in ptrr was 145. By the time we made it to indoc we had 87 people. Guys were ringing out in their whites. that shit was funny."
He seems a little confused about what the difference is between 1rst phase, PTRR, and Indoc are and when each occurs. Now 1rst phase instructors don't get their hands on students until 1rst phase. So how he made them "go away before indoc even started", I don't know. Also since Indoc is the very first phase you do in BUD/S, I'm not sure how this instructor could make 58 drop before they even started. He must have been a real bad-ass.
Then on October 22nd, he claims to know two people in DevGru and writes this:
"Yes, the operators for Devgru are older. Alot of guys out of BUD/S are usually 19 to 25, I've seen a 38 yr old make it though. You usually have to complete at least two platoons, get good recommendations, a hot shit squared away operator. Knowing someone on DEV doesnt hurt either. Physically you have to be well above regular SEAL standards. The couple of guys I knew on DEVGRU were hardasses. Even then they have to be put through more physical training once they arrived."
One month later, he writes this about DevGru:
"How long does a new SEAL spend on green team learning the new ropes before he's made operational? Along with learning CQB, I was told that they have a lot of physical training to go through to. Is this true? How long can a guy stay with Devgru?"
My question is, if he has contacts in the Teams and on DevGru, why doesn't he ask them. He should know, if he was a SEAL, that no one is going to answer these questions on an internet bulletin board. In one month, he appears to go from being the expert to knowing nothing.
Finally, he posted this in early November... very strange:
"I need some help. I am going into a service and only want the fastest paced, KATN group. I want to do DA and CT,bottomline. Ever since I returned to the civilian world, I'm sick of regular work. So I'm trying to get my facts straight. what's the difference between RIP and Ranger course?"
Again, I ask if he's been there done that, surely there are better places to get this info.
The only thing he has going is that he spit out a few legit names of SEALs and knows a few generic stories which anyone with a passing interest in the Teams can read about in a dozen books or hear about in half a dozen documentaries.
I appologize for this being so long, but as I have no direct proof, I thought it best to provide all of my circumstantial evidence and let you guys make a decision whether to pursue this further.
I don't have a name, but his email is nightinsrt@aol.com. I posted a message to him about 2 weeks ago requesting his BUD/S class number, date of grad, and date of discharge. He hasn't posted since.
Let me know how this all turns out.
Thanks,
mb
