I've seen all kinds of "tactical" slings on the internet and the usual catalogs and am not able to discern the differences in quality between any of them. Here is my challenge to you- find me the best tactical sling for my Olympic M4 clone. I am looking for something comfortable, OD green and quiet, a quick release feature would be helpful but not required also I have the side sling mount up front if that helps. I also don't have enough money for Denny Chalker's sling. :-) I'm looking to spend no more than $30. if you could give me your advice and link me to a site that'd be great. My Olympic Arms M4 clone is my first tactical rifle.
Thank You,
J

Blackhawk makes a nice one--they are on the Soccom store site. Blackhawk is 1.25" black nylon w/o quick release. Recently saw another by Tactical Tailor, also black nylon but in 1.5" width and with a quick release. Supposed to be being used by 1/75th (anybody?). Looked okay, but no personal experience with it (I am using the Blackhawk). Do not know if either is available in OD--black seems much more common. Hope this helps.

All,

SPP (makers of the MOLLE, RACK and the FSBE) has a pretty good 3 point sling. They have it on their website for sale at www.specialtyplastics.com (http://www.specialtyplastics.com)

Also Safety Systems got the Govt contract to make 3 point slings for the Army. They also have a web site, but I dont know the URL. Any got it???

I've used the SPP one, but dont have any experience with the SS one..

I haven't used the TacTailor sling, but based on a couple pieces of his gear, I imagine it'd be a very good rig.

I've been running with Giles slings on my 870 and M4-gery for three + years now. Very Good stuff!

I've stayed with the Giles, because they are on all my weapons and changing would be cost prohibitive. If I had to change, I'd more likely than not go with the TacTailor.

Good choice on the Tactical Tailor. At the end of '98 the entire Ranger reg. went with
the QR Tac-sling from TTT for their M4's.

Hi carpe282;

have a question about the TT sling, on the M4 will the front attachment fit around the RIS with the covers on? The older BlackHawk sling had a similar set up and would only fit with the covers off(ouch!)They went to a standard front side swivel hook up to make it suitable for the M4A1 with RIS(and if mounted for a right handed soldier will foul the M203A1)

Take care...Jim

When I took a closer look at the TT sling, I saw that there is an attachment that wraps around the handguard-what does anyone think about that, does it get in the way? Should I just look for something that just hooks to the front sight SIDE sling mount? How does it stay put on the handgaurd, is there a non slip rubber involved? I still haven't ordered a sling yet, just wondering if it makes a difference (wrap around handgaurd).
Thanks
Shure.

Hi Shure;

The attachment on the old BH worked okay on standard handguards, the problem came to be with the RIS that are larger in dia. than a 'normal" handguard. It was usable on it by removing the plastic covers, exposing the rail, that are there to protect the rail...and your hands =80

When using the side mount sling swivel to get the weapon to hang right you have to remount the swivel to the left of the weapon for a right handed individual. When the swivel is in this position the sling can foul the latch for the M203 while trying to operated it(and we all know what Mr Murphy enjoys). If you're not going to have a '203 mounted you have no problem, and if you have no RIS you'll have no problems with the handguard bands of the older BH or TT version. If it fits the RIS I'd be happy with the system as it keeps the sling away from the '203 AND the front sight, plus it allows the weapon to "hang" right which is the purpose of this type of sling. The only items that this set up could mess up are the PEQ2 and PAQ4 that mount on the RIS on the top rail at front, and again these are IR laser devices and you are unlikely to have access to in civie life.

Hope this will clarify my concerns about the sling and ease your concerns of the front attachment. It's a good system, as long as it fits. Take care, my friend...Jim

Muchos Gracias Jim. Yeah, I guess it just comes out to what will be more economically freindly for me..and I think the Tactical Tailor model is. But jeez, I sure wouldn't mind having a 203 to have a fouling problem with!! Thanks again and keep em tight.

Carpe-
Out of curiousity, does the TT sling have the ability to deal with the Millenium lights on the M4/AR15A3s?
I ask because several of us were jumping through hoops when those lights came out. The solution we ended up using was having to buy the Sling-Thing from GGG, install it in the front sight assembly & get a new Giles sling with a normal end set-up on it.

I've got the Tactical Tailor M-4 sling on my Bushy M-4gery. Its pretty cool. Gets your rifle out of the way quickly. You wear it opposite of a regular sling. You will need a GG&G "sling thing $30" or "Slic $70" mount though.

So much to read, so little time on-line after my wife gets finished with the martha stewart page! The sling from TTT is gun specific. The M4 version is designed to be used with a side mounted swivel, but could be wrapped around the front sight post. As for using it with the new Sure-fire, you would have to do what you did with the GGG mount. If you wanted a version that wrapped around the RIS handguards, give the company a call and tell them what you need. If anyone wants to see a diagram of how the system mounts to the gun, check out Olympic Arms web-site and look under nylon gear. www.olyarms.com. (http://www.olyarms.com.)

Are you usinng the sling alone or wit web gear/LBV? If you're using LBE, try attaching a snap link to the shoulder of your suspenders/vest (on whichever side you shoot from). Attach a standard sling to the snaplink and the weapon will fall vertically, muzzle down. If you want it falling diagonally, accross your chest, attach the same sling through another snaplink on your opposite shoulder. Anyone else do this?

I recieved the Tactical Tailor Quick Release Sling yesterday. I have "practiced" with it on my M4gery and must say that it is an EXCELLENT product. The nylon is soft and doesn't scratch or chafe. It connects quite easily and being the M4 version is meant for the M4 side sling attachment, it works perfectly, there is no interference with the handgaurd and is quite easily adjustable. For $25 from ustacticalsupply.com, it is an awesome deal. Hope to have many years of use from this sling, lifetime guarantee as well.

Seeing as you gents are talking about slings, anybody have any hands-on experience with the (Dennis) "Chalker Sling"...?

I'm having a look at a brochure of the system, but having a Safarlind Cover 6 Plus with all the goodies for duty, and then putting this type of sling on, I'm wondering if the length over the shoulders is adjustable...(brochure doesn't seem to suggest that it is).
