Hey Guys,
I just saw this guns and ammo magazine at my local Wal-Mart. Normally I dont look at gun mags, but on the cover thay had a picture of the IMI TAVOR. I was wondering has anyone else seen it? Also does anyone have more info on this gun?

It's a contender to be Israel's new assault rifle. It's a short bullpup design (as can be seen) firing standard 30-round mags of 5.56mm NATO. According to the author of the article in the magazine, it's easier to handle and more comfortable than two other bullpups that he's fired, the AUG and the infamous L85A1. Fires semi and full-auto, with ambidextrous mag release, cocking lever on left side of forend (I think). A shorter version with a much abbreviated forend is also available. This is all straight from the article, it's all I know about it.

I think the term is, was a contender. The Tavor project has been cancelled and the M4 has been adopted as the standard issue rifle.

Actually the tavor just finish successfully its early quality tests in the idf.
In early 2000 it will begin its field (operational) test. About 80 guns will be given to two companies in one of the golany infantry brigade battalions. The other 2 companies in the battalions will be equipped with m4 and car15 and after few months switch. It will be a comparative test for about a year, in the end the solders will give their opinions, and the idf will choose.
The tavor has 4 versions: regular (long), short (for SF units), designated marksman version (with a high magnification scope and a bipod) and micro version for cqb (to replace handguns and smg).
Tavor has 2 problems:
1- Financial. The us give 2 billions $ per year military aid to Israel with one condition: most of it has to be spent back in the us. M4 costs less then 100$ to the idf while tavor will cost about 1000$, you can do the math yourself.
2- A lot of people are against the bullpup design (it's a big disadvantage in cqb when you have to fire using both shoulders).
I doubt the tavor will ever go to operational use in large numbers, mainly because of the financial reason.

What firing mechanism does the tavor have.....rotating bolt? is it just a reworked Galil
the best bullpup ive fired is the CR21 even though its really just a modified R5 i think its the most accurate bullpup around...a real downside to this weapon is the weight of 3.9kg but the accuracy and reliability are very good
other bullpups
tavor
famas
AUG
SAR-21
