Thoughts? I'm going to be doing this unless there's a compelling reason not to. If anyone can shed some light, I'd appreciate it.
I'll be a wet-behind-the-ears instant EMT when I get there, but I think it's designed for the average joe anyway.
Thanks guys.

IMUA is with a group who are putting on some pretty cool courses, of which the Corps has purchased some instruction as well.
I "think" they do open enrollment stuff and some of the things they are doing with the mil-guys are EXACTLY what I had to sneak around and find instructors for OCONUS.
Good stuff and HIGHLY relevant....

Thanks, I'll PM him. This course sounds pretty decent and fits my schedule, though.
Here is IMUA's Course's and web page: http://www.oems.org/
Great course. If you need help contacting him let me know.

I realize most of you are BTDT’s but if you are trying to pick-up a course that will get you from EMT-B to EMT-I Might I suggest you check out TEEX WWW.TEEX.COM
They are through Texas A&M and it’s one of the shortest course in the country if you have your basic already , between class and ridealongs it is fast paced but worth it if you don’t want to spend six months trying it elsewhere
If you go for it PM and I will be happy to give you some survival and pre-course tips

Looks like IMUA's course is a no go for me, I'm not military or LEO.

It actually doesn't look like I'd be able to attend any off those based on my schedule, but I appreciate it anyway Rat.

Massgrunt,
You don't have to be LEO or Military to get into OEMS. As a contractor you would have no problems getting in. There are two courses. One for the operator (shooter/limited medical background) and the other for medical types. Not all class dates are on the web site.
If you are looking to get your EMT cert; you won't get that there.

I can help with an OEMS seat.

Thanks guys. I checked out the OEMS site, the only course with seats anywhere near me is at a bad time. Although there is one at Camp Pendleton *shudder*. That would actually be pretty cool, I still have some friends/co-conspirators out there.
I should have my EMT-B this month. I don't care about getting an additional cert (I'll need a lot of experience before going further), but I'd like to add some relevant skills to the tool box. It looks like Tactical Element will be it.
Edit: Just read Global Med and sarc's posts more carefully. PMs out.
I just attended the "Operators Course" in Southern California. The information given to me, and practiced in this course was extremely relevant to my field in Tactical LE. I'm not a medical guy, but the course showed me some views I haven't been presented with in 20+ years of LE experience. I don't drink Koolaid, and I haven't had any of OEMS', but I do think they have a course worth taking, if saving lives are worthy in your eyes.
I know there are a great number of guys on this forum with experience way more than I have, this is just my simple observation. I'd like to hear more of others' viewpoint that have an opinion of OEMS.
If you are interested in OEMS, it's worth at least a Commo check to IMUA, just for the lively conversation.
Back to my Cap'n Morgan and Coke.....

A buddy just came back from down south where he was on the OEMS. While he could not give details, he said the course was well worthwhile. It taught him alot of new skills, and gave him ample opportunity to practice and get good in the skills he will need in his up coming missions. He said there is a lot to teh operational medicine that we as military medics basing our techniques and teaching on civilian protocals are not doing quite right.
He was most happy with the course.

To put it mildly, I would not recommend Tactical Element to anyone. PM for info.

ArmyMedic...
I met your mates on the course and was very impressed with their "motivation". Glad to know that they took some lessons away with them and that they were happy with their time on the course with us. Good men!
E6G....glad to hear the same from your guys! Hopefully, it will count when it matters.
Cheers...

IMUA... I didn't spend any time. However, I certainly spent some money, for a cancelled course, and have not been reimbursed, nor replied to.
The good news is, I should have some training time. I wish my schedule had matched up with yours before, I wouldn't be in this predicament.

Didn't see this post, PM out. My schedule is tighter than hell, though. I've spent less than 24 hours at home in six weeks, I'm booked solid for another month, and I have a looming drop dead time. There's not much chance I'll be able to go anywhere.
Unfortunately I wasted money on a fucking thief instead of waiting for known entities.
