View Full Version : Research on Civil War era weps.
I need some help here. I'm attempting to construct a database of Civil War era (and a little later) rifles/pistols in order to run a computer simulation of the Battle of Little Big Horn. The main weps I'm looking for are: Henry .44cal, Winchester Model 1873 .44cal, Colt Model 1873 .45cal pistol, Springfield Model 1873 carbine .45cal, Sharps .50cal, Springfield .50cal. My problem is in order to run a valid experiment I must have the weps characteristics modeled as accurately as possible, in order to derive a PH/PK (probability of hit/kill) table for each kind of weapon. Muzzle velocity, load for standard cartridges, etc. Anybody aware of any resources that might carry this kind of info, or relevant stats that can help to derive this info?
Uhhhhh...
Well-ballistic info is one of those funny things on weapons from this era. I can't think of any immediate sites. Will keep my eyes open though.
I can offer some info on weights of weapons, lengths of barrels, overall etc. Ignore the RPG stats and hype and choose the pic down at the bottom of the marksman medal...

The site is mine-but the focus is entirely different than this site. should give you some info to start with though...
