Well I just signed my Master-At-Arms/SEAL Challenge Contract. I have about 4 months for PT before I go to Basic Training. Swimming, pushups, situps, and pullups arnt a problem for me. The only thing I dont really like is running. Im well aware that they have the conditioning runs in BUD/s and I started running last week. Its not really that my muscles cant take the runs its just that I get shortness of breath pretty easily ( like within the first mile ). Is there anything that I can do to help with my lung capacity? Any training/running advice is appreciated.

Absolutely right. The only thing you can do is run. The more you do it the more you will develop your aerobic capability. If I were you I might try to get a trainer at a gymn. Youve got alot of prep to do in a short amount of time.

hey fella the only way to inprove your CV fittness is by doing CV exercises just run and run and each week up your mileage by a mile a week, and do one sprint session a week also rowing is proven to be one of the quickest ways to improve your fitness. best of luck

In the very unlikely event he makes it through BUD/S.......he'll have a Bachelors Major in How to Take an Ass Kicking/ With a Minor in a Kick in the Sac. I'm not apologizing for any of the shit I've said to him because it's motherfuckers like hime that take BUD/S billets away from good guys that have been struggling for years trying to get to BUD/S I'm sure there's a few on this forum that have can attest to trying to get to BUD/S with no luck at all.

They're right...run more, it will help...just don't kill yourself in the beginning or you'll pay for it later...I'd suggest m,w,f kinda thing for awhile.

Hi Otter...Noticed your profile is blank. Mind filling it out so we know who we're talking to. Thanks

Additionally, Otter, from reading your posts you are not a SEAL.

Just noticed you've answered several questions for people here about the SOF community. Including one for AF SOF.

I'm guessing there's one SEAL pup who's thanking God every night that ClearedHot won't be waiting for him on the BUD/s QD when he checks on board in 4 months...

For the record, I'm always glad and willing to help out a pup. I just think there's a right and wrong way to do it. Obviously by asking a question about college credit for graduating BUD/S well.................let's just say that should be the one of the last things he should be thinking about.

As a side note I remember clearly the night I checked into BUD/S on the QD. The CDO was at the desk and man o man that CPO never forgot about me all the way through BUD/S even when I got out of 1st Phase (he mashed me for GP everytime he saw me in the compound). He later told me after I graduated BUD/S he was pissed because of having duty that Friday Night and the next guy (just happened to be me) to walk throught the door of the QD that night he was gonna take it out on him (me) and well.....it just carried on all the way through BUD/S. I'm sure alot of guys have stories like that.

M14 DMR,
I was never SpecWar, just a dumb jarhead grunt. SpecWar Socnetters, please excuse the intrusion also. But I found this guy in a law enforcement thread and now he is polluting your board as well.
Here is my advice: Go away.

I noticed you were the same guy who wanted to go gangs in CA. You mentioned that was what you wanted to do after the Marines. Now you want to go to BUDS. Stop making threads and wasting our time. You want to pursue goals in the military or law enforcement? More power to you and I wish you the best of luck. Just stop starting a thread every 5 minutes and changing your mind. You are wasting our time by starting threads and not coming back to them. You need to be outside PTing instead of on the computer.

Take this to heart. Everybody on this board will back me on this one.

Crawl, Walk, Run.

Not as funny as your chicken. :D

M14: Run, add 10% everyday. If you cannot trot 2 miles before Boots, then BUDS will have to be a dream gone by.

This guy is full of shit! You can't even get a SEAL contract with an A-school option any more. All SEAL challenge contracts are Seamen to SEAL. I can't believe it now there are even DEPer impersonators? WTF

One way to build lung capacity (other than dropping your purse and sprinting) and something you can do anytime, anywhere, are deep breathing exercises.

When you're sitting, lying down, watching TV, whatever, breathe in as deeply as you can pushing your stomach out to draw air into the bottom of the lungs. Exhale. Do this ten times. Then do it again whenever you remember.
