Gentelmen. I am a US citizen currently residing in Europe. Can anyone advise if British PSD courses are recognized by American companies. Reason is I would like to take one in England ,so I could save on plane tickets.
Found on this web. www.psd-training.com
Any info would help.

If you want a good course, then try either Phoenix or Ronin UK, both will get you the newly required SAI licence, both these courses are run by former Hereford guys, and is more in line with Close Protection, than High Risk stuff, that has no real certification.......
Here is a link about UK SIA licensing (Close Protection) and training providers:

Only problem with that is they do not provide live fire training which is not good. I dont think practicing with paint guns is the same. Last time I did live fire was on my last contract 6 months ago in Jamaica. I just dont want to get rusty.

I highly recommend contacting Meido Ltd in London (http://www.meidoconsultants.com/. I did the refresher course with them for the SIA CP licence qualification. I do not believe they have a live fire component on their course, but I do know they regularly travel abroad to conduct such training. At the end of the day all UK courses revolve around unarmed CP which is not always what US companies are looking for. If you want to get on with a UK outfit you really need to do a UK course, same same for the US, the exception being Ronin which is well respected both ends. Happy for a PM if you want more info on the whole SIA thing.
Good luck

What do you mean by recognised? There are UK based training providers who are recognised as GTG here in the US. We don't have the same license requiremen that was recently started in the UK so they cannot help you that way.
Here's a small list of providers to include a very good medical provider and the SA Ronin which is GTG as well as having a outstanding med package.
There are more, including CRG which is running a CP crse. With the advent of the SIA requirements you pretty much can swing a stick and hit a provider.

recognised as in having some certification, and clout behind them..not as in Nobody knows anything about them...
for example if you've done Ronin or Phoenix, they know their reputation preceeds them, and they know that they have solid backgrounds, and you know they speak quality(for the better part)
Minimal risk are more of a recruiting agency now,who will put you in touch with training providers.....
the CRG course is more geared up to HRE than say Ronin or Phoenix, it's a clever marketing ploy, by making their guys pay for it before hiring them, obviously if you have done a course such as Ronin or Phoenix you'll have a good solid background of the requirements....than say over PSD training....
I've heard some negative stuff about PSD-training ,compared to the big two, especially when some of the instructors last trip into Iraq was 2004, and only in and around Kurdistan.....but I've also heard some good stuff about them too.....

The recognised question was directed towards the orignal poster. I know you know your way around the training providers:D

They've got a good rep also, and it's also run by ex Hereford geezers.
They also prefer you do their course and they'll offer you work at the end of it, if there's anything going at the time, and you meet their criteria

Tomusik....I'm booked on the Sept course with PSD Training. I'll be glad to answer reasonable questions after that for you, if that'll help?
In order to include live firing the vast majority of UK training incorporates a section in Europe/East/FSU/SA.
This is occasionaly done in conjunction with a foreign partner.
Luck,
M.

Ronin SA is a an intensive 5week no b.s PSD/Bodyguard course run in
Cape Town,SA. I got full package from them yestarday. It runs for 6.5k us.all inclusive, exept plane tickets. They even issue you 30 day weapons permit while in trainning. I need help finding more about Stirling Services in Slovenia and their reputation and quality of PSDtraining. Could not find anything on them except for what they have on their web. There was a couple of threads about psd-training that I can't find. From memory it was deemed GTG by the guys here. However something to consider is that 2 of the main owners/trainers used to work for Custer Battles and then URG. While the course may provide some excellent training, you need to decide if you are shelling out to improve yourself only, or to get a job in the industry. I find it highly unlikely that psd-training can secure you a job with a company they themselves couldn't get work with. The Ronin and Phoenix courses on the otherhand do have a track record of getting guys work, and the people I know that have done it said the training was a waste of time for PSD in Iraq, but they got a job here from doing the course so overall they were glad they shelled out.
Before paying for any course I would call the companies that the course website claims to have sent guys to and ask what they think of the course (or if they have even heard of it). Erinys, CRG, Olive, Aegis etc all have their favourite course for you to do if they don't have their own, so find out what it is from their recruiters and you will quickly find the course its in your best interest to do employment wise.
...Argyll just said it

There is also another forum which contains info and AAR's from courses (including European providers). But these only confirm what Argyll and others said about Ronin, Phoenix and Stirling. I can PM you that other forum's link.
I am also "shopping around" to find a good course...BTW if you can afford Ronin (SA) you surely can afford TEES or similar in States? Just an though beacuse you are likely seeking to work with US company...

I am a grad of the Phoenix CP and pistol courses. I'd like to say go there, but since Armor Group took over feelings in the industy have changed a bit. Go with Ronin in SA. If you have any questions, please pm me and I'll be happy to talk to you about it.
