I have a few wondering questions about the Bureau, 1811...you will most likely be the most help.

1. What exactly is the difference between the DEA's narcotics mission and the FBI's jurisdiction in drugs?
2. When an agent is reassinged to a different FO, how does the Bureau help the relocating agent find housing, reajustment, etc.?
3. How do agents that have prior military or law enforcement experience get along with the accountant-agents and the attorney-agents?
4. Are you comfortable (I'm asking agents..1811) with the current .40 Glock 22/23....would you change the issued sidearm?

1. In 1983, the FBI was given concurrent jurisdiction with the DEA for drug investigations. This was due in large part to the proliferation of drugs in organized crime cases. There is no statutory difference in the FBI's and DEA's authority. The DEA is a single mission agency with four Federal statutes to enforce; the FBI enforces about 225. FBI and DEA Agents often serve side by side on Drug Task Forces.

2. Relocation for Agents is covered fully and includes a 10 day house hunting trip, temporary quarters when you arrive, all moving expenses, etc.

3. That would require a bit of a generalization, but mostly background matters little once you are in and doing the job. There are a few cliques that emerge (SWAT is a common one - we're perceived as arrogant and elitist knuckle draggers who spend way too much time in the gym and on the range). The violation you work also matters. Drug agents and violent crime agents are in a different world than national security agents. If you're a good agent, you're a good agent. One of the best all-around operators on the SWAT Team (Police Olympics champion shooter, PT stud) is a former newspaper reporter. His background matters little to me - what can he do RIGHT NOW, when I need him most?

4. I was issued the Sig Sauer (pre Glock days) at the Academy, and now I carry the Springfield 1911 .45 (SWAT gun), so I can't answer the Glock question.
