Ok, So I was speaking with a few Officer's who just started language school a little while back, and we started to speak of opinions that we had on the POQC and MOST Psyop courses. That opened up the floodgates for some of the most unprofessional remarks that I have ever seen come out of an officers mouth. Several of them came from Branches like AG, JAG, Finance....stuff like that, anywho.......they started flirting around the subject of why they didnt think PSYOP was important, so I came out and asked them, "If you dont believe in the mission, then why are you here?"
In response to that, one of the answers that I got was....."I love working in AG, I think its one of the most important jobs in the Army....However, I wasnt looking at getting promoted anytime soon in my old branch, which is why im here. I deserve to be promoted because (insert resume here) and I am going where the promotions are."
This bothers me mainly because I will cross paths with O's like some of the ones I described above once I reach whichever battalion I will be assigned.
Anyone exp. anything like this before?

It's everywhere. The Army ascribes to the theory of Move Up or Move Out.
So chasing promotions is important to some.
They will likely never be any good at it, and will rise to their level of incompetence.
A lot of O's have business aspirations after the Army. It looks really bad on a resume to say you were tossed out of the Army as deadweight after being passed over for promotion. The business world knows what being passed over means and they are not looking to add balast in a day and age where down-sizing is the norm.
There will always be those types of people, both Comissioned and Non-Comissioned.
None of them will ever be seen as the best there is in their field. They will be recognized as self-serving promtion hunters.
You can pursue rank, or you can pursue excellence.
If you choose to seek the latter, you may not reach the pinnacles of the rank structure, but you will be known as the best there is, and will be able to speak with authority when you open your mouth. Superiors and subordinates alike will seek out your opinon.
Excellence is it's own reward.

From one of the last scenes of Heart Break Ridge:
Just what the hell do you think
you were doing?
Just enjoying the view, sir.
You disobeyed a direct order.
I told you to stay in contact
and not take this hill without me.
Get on your feet, Highway!
With all due respect, sir,
you're beginning to bore the hell out of me.
Who's in charge here?
I am, sir. Major Malcolm Powers.
Did you lead this assault?
Lieutenant Ring and Gunnery Sergeant
Highway disobeyed a direct order, sir.
I told them to wait for support,
but they still charged this hill.
Why?
Because we're paid to improvise, sir.
To overcome, to adapt.
I gave the order to take this hill, sir.
Ring, this is going to ruin your career.
Are you new to the infantry, Major?
Yes, sir. I came over from Supply.
Were you good at that?
Yes, sir!
Then stick to it, because you're
a cluster fuck as an infantry officer.

Don't sweat it.... Those are the idiots that are easily identified by real deal supported unit Staff Officers/NCO's and will get busted out accordingly. You just worry about doing your job as a Noncommissioned officer to the best of your ability (picking up the pieces and driving on after your O screws the pooch). Take care of the mission and take care of your troops. This shit isn't rocket science..... ergo some Finance O looking for a promotion isn't going to make or break the PSYOP campaign....
Also keep in mind that you will run into fine Officers who know their job and care about the mission....

Indeed,
And if it comes to it, the NCO bond between Supported unit and Slice can make up for the failings in the Officers of the slice unit.

Cream floats, and the rest usually sinks, leading to the observation that no matter how much sugar you put on a turd, it won't become a donut. It is indeed still a turd, albeit a pretty one.
