What gun is issued to special agents in the FBI? Do they have a choice of what they want to carry? Thanks

The Bureau recently switched from issueing the Sig P226 (other models issued and/or authorized for use were P228, 229, 220, 225). They now issue Glocks and a variety of models are authorized. FBI Agents do have to follow rather strict guidlines regarding their choice for carry-some agency's, such as the DEA, give their agents a little more lattitude. FBI types can still carry their SIG's, S&W's or the new glocks, 9mm and above being the general rule. I believe older school agents who were on HRT when they carried Browning Hi-Power's are still permitted to carry that weapon.

As of right now, new FBI Special Agents are being issued Glock Model 23 - 40 calibre.

Take care.

I know this is an old thread but thought I'd post anyway. I thought that the Glock Model 23 is the small version 40 caliber. A friend of mine in the FBI was issued a Glock 22, the full size model in 40 caliber. So I'm basically saying that I thought they were issued Glock Model 22.
