Found these, new, at a local surplus shop and picked up a pair.

They resemble the current gen black jungle boots w/ speedlaces in the uppers. But instead of panama soles, they have Vibram soles and steel toes. Also no drain vents.

Markings include: ANSI Z41 PT91 MI/75 C/75, Made by Wolverine, dated Dec. 1998.

Was wondering if this was an overage of a special run made for the Navy or USMC. The Bates 'SEAL/Seabee' boots have a similar 'ANSI' number.

Just curious as to the military lineage/history, if any. This seems similar to the 'resole your jungle boots w/ Vibram' setup mentioned recently in another thread.

I added an aftermarket sport insole and this seems to be a nice, comfy setup, especially in warmer weather...

Thanks.

Nobody but CB's and black shoe sailors(USN) use steel toes anymore.

US Army Cooks and Mechanics are issued steel toed footwear at CIF's, but they are all leather, not jungle type boots.

Why would cooks need steel toes?

In case a big pot drops on their toe.

To prevent toe injuries when they kick the KP's in the ass!

Thanks.

Btw, found out later (on-line) the ANSI marks are ANSI ratings for steel toe protection, maybe electrical shock resistance, too...

Who knows? Maybe these are Seabee boots...

Nice warm weather boots regardless...
